Rating: Summary: Easy to read explanation of Biblical texts Review: This book presents in a very easy to understand and readable way a very accurate interpretation of the Biblical texts regarding homosexuality. Even its use of Greek words is not intimidating and they explain them clearly. They also present texts that are pro-homosexuality that are provocative and enlightening. This is a rare gift that this book brings to this topic. Many books in this area are very scholarly and difficult to read. Miner, et al, makes the interpretations clear for any average reader. You do not have to be a Biblical scholar or a linguist. Their presentation is done in a very readable way and does not condemn those who may disagree. It invites them to keep an open mind. For those who may have been bashed by Biblical texts on homosexuality, this book can bring a new vision and understanding into the value of Christian faith. It definitely is intended for those of a Christian background or understanding. For those who are interested in the Biblical questions and passages, this book is a valuable one to have in your library or to share with friends or family who have questions and are searching.
Rating: Summary: A New Prospective on "The Clobber Passages" Review: This book visits the passages of scripture that are most commonly turned against gay lesbian and bisexual people and answers the questions that many of us bring to scripture. I found this book to be very enjoyable and informative.
Rating: Summary: Best book to open Christians eyes about Bible and gay people Review: This compact and readble book shows convincingly that the mainstream anti-gay sentiment in the church is based on a misreading of the Bible and of Jesus. But that's just the first chapter. The book goes on to show same-sex relationships affirmed by the Bible. It shows how Jesus' own approach -- affirming people over rules -- calls for Christians to embrace gay people as good, and part of God's creation. If you are a Christian with a lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender relative or friend, you owe it to yourself to read this wonderful book. You will then want to buy a stack of them and give them to your friends and church, as I have just done. Slim, well-argued, to the point, and complete, it is the best book for this purpose I have found.
Rating: Summary: concise and well argued Review: This short book is a great resource if you're looking for an easy to read apologetic for pro-gay theology. Many of the most convincing, progressive answers to the old clobber passages are found here, as well as intriguing arguments that the scriptures may in fact support loving, same-sex relationships.
Rating: Summary: Love Christ, hate the Christians Review: This work is a breath of fresh air, dispersing the poisonous dogma of the "people of the Book." Perhaps by reading works like "The Children Are Free" we will come to our senses and realize that the institutional religions have long been co-opted by political forces into becoming engines of genocide, rather that paths to transformation and revelation. Now that Native peoples (and their cultures) have largely been exterminated, the Church continues to repress the natural man in all of us, enforcing its control by the repression of Love, which is ultimately our only redemption. Thank you, Jeff Miner, for helping set that Love free. The only thing I would add is to recommend some works that back up this book: The Gnostic Gospels by Elaine Pagels and Lovers' Legends by Andrew Calimach, a book about the gay Greek myths, which illuminate the spiritual foundation of gay love.
