Summary: very moving but difficult to get through
Review: this book was very well written and mark doty is no doubt of extreme intelligence and unlimited passion regarding ironically death and life around him. while the book says volumes about someone I would love to meet, it's not very sure of itself as a story or essay and often i got confused between the two. I cried while reading it but had to work sorta to finish it. I must add that the way he views life and its players be it man or beast was truly lovely.

Review: Without a doubt one of the most moving and well-written autobiographical books I have ever read, this account of the author's relationship with his lover Wally, and the latter's illness and death, is not just a memoir, it's a spiritual journey. Doty acts as tour guide to an emotional nether world and the bright space beyond. Aching beautiful writing which never descends into mawkishness. A magnificent read.
