Love, Ellen : A Mother/Daughter Journey

Summary: Very touching and Inspiring and motivational
Review: Betty Degenerous gives a very open and honest look into the troubles which face families of gay and lesbian children. She is by far one of the most motivational writers with first hand knowledge on this subject. The book is one that ALL parents should read regardless if they are secure in the thought that their children are gay or not. This is a book which prioritizes responsibilities as a parent and gives clear light into the art of unconditional love which unfortunatly is lacking in todays society by large percentages of families.

Review: Betty is with no doubt a super mom, and above all a great human being that God must be so proud to have in this so unfair, cold and violent world. She gives us all a great lesson of love, what is so simple and natural, but unfortunately so hard get and give...unconditionally, by so many. Ellen and Anne are role models of the pure love we all hope to get one day, no matter what sexual preference we may have. Definately a book to the world and mankind. Translations in several languages please! You go Betty, Ellen and Anne! :)

Review: Betty, thanks for your inspiring book...I am still trying to convince my best friend to give it to her mom. If anything can save that woman, it's you and your message.

Summary: A good Place To Start...
Review: Coming out to anybody is never easy. For me, and thousands of other gay women (and men), coming out to my parents proved to be something which weighed constantly on my already burdened mind. I constantly ran through in my head, the conversation in which I would tell them...It always came down to the same thing: "I can't do it..". There are no handbooks on how to tell somebody something like this, because everybody's situations are different, and of course, a person's reactions to such news cannot always be judged. I was worried about how my parents would react, what they would say...Then A friend recommended this book. I was sceptical..how could a book make any difference to me? It did. Betty Degeneres's approach to writing about her experience is warm, honest, humourous and uplifting. After I'd finished the book, I felt confident that my I could tell my parents. Betty's reaction when she was first told, and her actions following that moment which changed her life were written about, perhaps as some form of self therapy or acceptance. Reading her thoughts and feelings enabled me personally to rid myself of the demons in my mind which scared me into thinking my mother and father would dis-own me. I guess my point is (and i do have one!) that reading about this from a mother's point of view certainly put things in perspective for me. It was, in short, invaluable. All mother/daughter relationships are different, some of us may be close, some of us may not. My mother and I both became closer after I'd told her I'm gay, something which I'm sure I would've remained being to scared to do - but for reading Betty Degeneres's book. I got the message that A mother's love takes alot to budge, which at that time, was something I desperatly needed to be reassured of. Review: I found Betty's memoir to a learning experience on how to accept a gay friend & or family member.I found that it took a long time for Betty to realize that Ellen was gay and counld'nt change for her sake.I enjoyed reading about how Ellen was as a child,her early struggles in the entertainment business, and dealing with her internal guilt with her sexual orientation.I would definately reccommend Betty's book to anyone who has a difficulty with homosexuality and the effects of people around them.

Review: I hope lots of you will read and enjoy and learn from Love, Ellen. It is truly a story of a mother/daughter journey - together and separately. I tell of my journey to acceptance of my gay daughter. It's also a detailed story of what it takes to build a career from ground zero based on Ellen's letters to me over the years. I think many women will relate to my journey from a traditional, conservative background, through troubled marriages, through cancer, to being a strong, happy, independent woman.
