Summary: Hmm....I have mixed feelings about this book...
Review: Peter Freestone, a.k.a. Phoebe, was under too much pressure to write this book. The result is a book, which is not as satisfactory as I imagined it would be. This book IS a tell-all, coming from the man, who lived under the same roof with FM for several years and have known him even longer. What could be more telling than that? It is a TELL-ALL, IN A GOOD SENCE OF THE WORD.

I must admit that I laughed my head off, during some particular recollections. The funniest thing is the "CASTING-LIST" AT THE BEGINNING AND AT THE END OF THE BOOK. It lists many people first, as they were when FM used to know them, and then, as they are now, ten years after his death.

Despite the humor, wit, and certain depth, this book IS NOT A MUST-READ, because much of the information has already been discussed in previous books about FM. I know that all of you fans out-there will read it anyway, so why do I even bother persuading you to do otherwise? Well... because this book left me with some strange and very sad feeling...not about Freddie Mercury, but about Mr. Freestone himself. I can't help thinking that he suffered the loss of FM more than he cares to admit, because he devoted too much of his own life to FM, in a sence...

Mr. Freestone seems to be a wonderful man, [the most] decent person in music biz, and above all-- the kind of a friend that anyone of us could wish for. I hope that his book would be the last one about Freddie Mercury, unless musicologists and professional biographers decide to conduct serious research of FM's art and life.

Summary: An Intimate and UNabriged Memoir
Review: This book could easily have been condensed to 1/4 of the pages. Each event or memory written about goes on and on, and on... - impatient readers beware.

While the author does a great job of providing every little detail, it is amazing to believe that he could remember everything in this much living colour, and doubtful that at the time he carried around a notebook to record everything happening around him.

Generally the writing is poor to midland at best and it is obvious the author is not a professional writer. The book also could have been organised a bit better, for it is not chronological, nor are chapter headings or topics given.

The reader will sense that the author wrote this book out of memory for his friend, Freddie Mercury, rather than out of primary interest in the royalties. Overall, this book is for only the most fanatical of Queen fans and for those supremely interested in Freddie Mercury.

Summary: BUY IT BEFORE IT GOES OUT OF PRINT
Review: This book is excellent.

Any real Queen fan will buy and readthis book. If you are looking for a tell-all, you won't find it here.Besides, tabloid tell-alls are not always reliable.

I would like to share some things I learned from this book ... Believe me, you will not be disappointed. A lot of mysteries will be solved.

If you haven't read the book I hope you do so soon. This is not a tabloid tell-all and it is a must have for any serious Queen fan. END

Summary: Not Much Insight
Review: This book was a real disappointment. It barely skims the surface on Freddie Mercury's life, and offers no insight into upbringing, family life, or the influence his Persian heritage had on his development. Freestone gambles on the assumption that the readers will already be well versed on the biographical history of Mercury, which isn't so in my case. I'm left with more questions than answers, and would have appreciated more discussion of his pre-Queen years, the relationships between band members, love interests, and how he dealt with his illness. Information wise this title will leave all but die hard fans out in the cold.

Summary: Thank you Phoebe for a wonderful book
Review: This is a good book to read if you want to know the detailed day to day life of Mr. Mercury. Phoebe is trying to show us what life was like with Freddie. The first part of the book is more of the touring scene, the second half is all about Freddie's day to day life. The end of the book is done very tastefully(eventhough, I still shed a few tears). This is not the book to read if you want to find out about the band as a whole, or if you want a detailed format of Queen's concerts. The Rumors in the book are put to rest or corrected. It's hard to say wheather I believe them or not, I wasn't there. Some readers will have to take them with a grain of salt. I have read this book 3 times so far, and every time I still get emotional. I thank Phoebe for giving us a glimpse into the life of the greatest singer/songwriter on this planet.

Summary: Excellent
Review: What Peter Freestone has done here is dispel and/or correct the many rumours and myths surrounding the life of Freddie Mercury. It is not a straightforward biography, but an intensely personal account of the last twelve years of Mercury's life, during which time Peter Freestone was his personal assistant and close friend. Freestone still remains fiercely loyal and wants us to understand the sort of devotion that those close to Mercury gave to him. He describes not just a rock star and a legend, but a fascinating man who was, by all accounts, one of a kind. Readers hoping to hear about Mercury's early life will be disappointed, but those wanting a behind-the-scenes, what-he-was-really-like account will love this book, as I did.
