Rating: Summary: Poor quality photos in a poor quality book. Review: I had hoped that this book might contain photos of more 'real' guys than are often to be seen in American books, where the models are all to frequently buffed and pumped. Now, this is certainly true of the guys photographed for this book. However, the downside is that the models are poorly selected, photographed and posed.Few, if any, of these images are erotic. They demonstrate a carelessness in technique that is breathtaking. I would imagine that every viewer of this collection would say "Hey, I can do that". And, they'd be right. This is a tawdry collection of snapshots (and pretty poor ones at that, and not a carefully composed collection of erotic photos.. The images are all too frequently out of focus, or have too little (or too much) depth of field. They have been poorly cropped and do not show the models at their best. Some of the models seem scared stiff - some look positively ill or dirty. Backgrounds are all too often empty or abandoned fields or rickety barns. Seemingly, NO thought has been given to what might surround the model in the finished photo and, combined with the lack of technical skills demonstrated, the backgrounds frequently subsume the model. Onto the book itself. Well, this is a shoddy production. The paper is poor quality, looks like recycled toilet tissue, and is equally incapable of holding anything substantial. In this case the paper should hold a sharp image. It's patently not able to do that. Added to that too many of the pictures are NOT sharp anyway, and the result is a total dog's-dinner. I'm surprised that the photographer even agreed to put his name on the cover, but then his apparent lack of concern about the quality of the initial images suggests that quality isn't his main concern. I guess that you may conclude that I didn't like this book. You're right. Look at Howard Roffman's "Pictures of Fred" to see a total contrast.
Rating: Summary: NOTES FOR THE COLLECTOR OF MALE EROTICA Review: Photobook of 60 color photographs of male nudes. Photography isnot too hot, or at least the print of the photography is not verygood, so Caveat Emptor. For the short, flimsy photobook this is, and the often blurry-grainey photographs, [it] is a whole lotta moolah...too much moolah... However, the guys are great; Real People and not Beefy, Brainless, Bimbos. The photobook is also just that...photos, unburdened by silly, new-agey, snobbish nonsense text ala Bianchi. The "Brett" series at the end is especially good. What can I say...if you like male erotica of Real Guys and not The Living Dead this is an excellent book for your collection. Just a bit overpriced for the quality of the photography itself.
