Summary: How to spend a day or two
Review: A great book. You can see there's been some thorough research conducted for this book. It was an absolute pleasure reading this book. Being the avid science and X-files fan I am, it was interesting to see XF to be presented in the light of "real" science. Really a must read for any XF or science fan.

Review: Anyone interested in the Paranormal will enjoy this book. X-File Fans will especially enjoy this book. See where some of the ideas from the show really came from. Very easy to read and understand with colorful illustrations. A must have!

Summary: One of the best books ever
Review: I absolutely love to know the sources of Chris Carter's inspiration for the X-Files plots. Goldman's book combines matter-of-fact prose with informative color photographs. In addition to this, she offers extensive bibliographies for further reading of the subjects she covers. Her book is a must for us hard-core fans of the show.

Summary: So much better than volume one.
Review: I have both volume one and now volume two- thanks to used book sellers. This book contains "explainations" for some of the best in my opinion episodes. "HUMBUG", "FIREWALKER", "3" - that was the episode that had one of david duchovny's at the time's girlfriend playing a vampire, "War of the coprophages"- heh heh Dr. Bambi, "hell money", "clyde bruckman's Final repose"- the psychic epiisode-one of my all time favorites. Msybe the book was great because it had great episodes in it... or maybe it was great because it seemed to be written better than the first book. The chapters are clearly laid out into catagories: Life outside the mortal form, human enigmas, weird world, ancient beliefs, 20th century threats and paranoias, a cosmic conundrum, investigating the unexplained. It's a well written book- as i've said before. the research goldman did for this book is excellent. it is similar to the first book with quotes from the various episodes... but in my opinion is more interesting than the first one. Maybe it's because goldman had choosen some great episodes to write about. Definately get this book for your x-files collection. I'm glad that i did.

Summary: X-files and Paranormal combined, you can't find better!
Review: There are many reasons to love that book:
First, it had a good appearance and nice quality paper.
Second, the pictures in it, the lines from The X-files make a nice reference and makes some stuff easier to understand.
Third, it explains a lot of paranormal phenomenon very clearly, with the explanations of scientists, researchers, witnesses, etc.
And finaly, all the reasons above explain why I loved it.

Summary: A Review from thebumps
Review: This big... er... massive X-Files book is truly something to be admired. The amazing detail, the awesome descriptions, the well-done interviews with cast and crew members alike, Jane Goldman, the author, should get some kind of award...

Summary: Incredibly Engaging and Thought-provoking!
Review: This review is for both volume 1 and 2. After reading both books in their entirety in less than two weeks, I can honestly say that they opened up my eyes. The material was fascinating, and the tie-ins with the episodes provided a nice sort-of jumping off point into some of the more bizzare subjects, such as comet-spawned venus-flytraps, human hibernation, seemingly intelligent ball-lightning, the truth about zombification and succubusses and other hypnogogic terrors. The reading is fun and smooth and there are pictures throughout. The whole layout of the book is great, and the author, Jane Goldman never insists on the truth. She leaves it to us to come to our own conclusions. Some of the more fascinating chapters were Reincarnation, Wierd Nature (Book 1.), Perchance to Dream, Looking Into The Abyss, Voodoo, Mass Hysteria and the Belief Engine and Urban Legends (Book 2.) Even if you are a total sceptic, there is a lot to enjoy and learn about in these books. As you read ! the book, you'll discover that no matter what the truth is, you will inevitably learn something, about yourself and about humanity. The way these two books delve not only into the alien world outside, but into the unexplored depths of our own minds is astounding. I highly recommend these books to anyone who considers and contemplates.
