Description:

From Tijuana Bibles to European comics erotica, not to mention 1960s underground comix, one of the most recurrent themes in the history of comics is sex. This collection of dirty comics from today's underground cartoonists attempts to provide an alternative to the glut of "embarrassingly uninspired sex comics." The result is more entertaining than titillating, especially considering the number of installments that are more cerebral than puerile. Take, for example, the two-page story by Matt Madden that contains no words, no people, and no action, yet is filled with erotic tension. Or consider the eight pages of "Ukieo-E-Pope," Japanese-style drawings by the extraordinarily talented Paul Pope (most of the images are of fruit or food). And you have to at least break a smile when you see the five-panel strip "Pirate Girl," complete with punch line, "Thanks a lot, Pirate Girl. You were swell." And she says, "Aye."
