Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Actually this is a book on opening strategy
Review: This book examines several key opening variations in the Sicilian, Caro-Kann, Grunfeld and Ruy Lopez with an emphasis on the strategic consequenses of each move. There are many questions posed along the way with answers to the questions in paragraph form. The author examines these variations deep into the middlegame, perhaps 25 full moves deep. For example the forced variation Black choses in the Caro-kann exchange with g7 x f6 leaving Black an open king knight file is examined in detail.
This approach to learning key ideas in several openings seems a better approach than to just try to memorize variations from an ordinary opening book.

Summary: Just an update
Review: This book is actually 224 pages and not 176 as advertised.
Repeat, this book is 224 pages and is well-written also.
I believe this book was written from Black's perspective and works best as an opening strategy book for Black. The author Jansa is a strong grandmaster.
