Review: This is a wonderful book for flute music. If you love the idea of playing jazz but do not know how to improvise, this is a GREAT book to learn by. The jazz purests would love music like this...improvised, and absolutley good fun to play. Horace Young unlocks the mystery of improvisation through a progressive series of exercises. Even beginners will experience instant gratification while experimenting with the most popular musical styles.

This book introduces the vital elements (melody, chords, scale systems, and technique) needed to be a creative jazz flutist. Each musical example has a single note improvised melody line with the chord progression. The book shows you how to use various example riffs to create an improvised solo over the chord progression. By demonstrating this technique you can pick most jazz standards and create your own improvisational ideas using the book. An absolute must for musicians learning and playing various jazz styles.

Review: This is an excellent book. It has information on breathing, tone, vibrato, articulation, technique, style, and performance. The play along tips are helpful. The book is worth every penny. The amount of research and love that must have gone into this work is amazing. This book is so great, I just ordered a second copy as a gift.
