African-American Music: An Introduction

Summary: Great work.
Review: I am currently a student of Earl Stewart's at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) and we are using his book in his class. The book is full of great information about the history of African-American music. I can only make one negative remark and that is that the book at times required the reader to have some knowledge and background in reading music. If one can look past this problem, they will find that is book is very interesting and great for anyone interested in learning more about the African-American musical history and style.
