Rating: Summary: An outstanding history of Southern Gospel Music. Review: Bob Terrell starts at the beginning of Southern Gospel music and takes you on a wonderful journey through the years. The groups, the people, the songwriters, the promoters. It's all here. Find out how they made it through those years. Some made it, some did not. The fun part of it and even the tragic part of losing someone in the industry way too soon. Bob even devotes one small chapter to those who have "gone home". This is a must for your library if you want to know anything about Southern Gospel music

Rating: Summary: Essential reading for the Southern Gospel Music student Review: Self taught journalist and retired sports writer Bob Terrell has written a very fine book on Southern Gospel Music. Terrell directs this book to the general reader. Organized in easy to follow chapters, this book is written in clear concise language. The only deficit is Terrell's lack of documentation. Better citation would make this book a five star selection.

Rating: Summary: The Story of Professional Gospel Quartet Singing Review: This book is about white gospel singing groups. The roots for Professional Gospel Quartet Singing is with Black Gospel Quartets/Groups. The book has errors but in general is good information. Mr. Terrell needs to define the term "Southern Gospel Music." I gave it a 3 star because it lacked details and dates. Other than a few words about CANAAN there is absolutely no mention of artists and recording companies in other parts of the Midwest and on the Westcoast and their contribution.Thank you Jim
