Summary: Drama for a New Millennium
Review: As a teacher of Drama for high school students, I can say that the earlier versions of this book were the basis for my classes. With the publication of the seventh edition, Tanner has changed the format which is less 'user friendly' if you do not also have the companion teacher's edition. Even with the teacher's edition, the older editions are still better in terms of the thoroughness of the critique pages at the end of each chapter. What I will note with this edition is that Tanner has omitted the sexist terminology and job descriptions associated with earlier editions. Also, this newer version is excellent for continuing Drama courses such as a Drama II or Advanced Drama curriculum because of the added chapters on "Assuming the Director's Responsibilities" and "Play Writing". Tanner should include a workbook with the course for individual actors in these courses. Overall, the text is better than before, just not as accessible as it once was.

Review: Very comprehensive book for use with High School students. Great photos and basic diagrams, easy for students to follow and interesting. Nice overview of Theatre History. Other sections include audience etiquette, basic acting, basic tech, management, and critiquing. Great as a supplement when lesson planning. Note: Also pick up the Teachers Manual, very helpful workbook.
