Rating: Summary: for any SERIOUS musician... Review: ...THIS and any book by Dan Dean is essential! He didn't just throw together the basics in a junky way but it's desinged to help you LEARN.
Rating: Summary: This was okay Review: This is the second book in this series by Dan Dean. It teaches Major and Minor Scales, 16th notes, Pull offs, slaps and pops. The majority of the excercises are good, however, I did come across several problems. For instance, according to several other books, including my music theory texts, the Cycle of Fifths is actually the Circle of fifths. There are several errors in this book in the form of TAB and bass clef lines not matching. Portions of the book are not explained very well so that a musician with no background in music can understand them. In addition, for some reason or another, one major scale is left out (F # Major) as is its corresponding Minor ( D # Minor). Major and Minor scales are something a student needs to learn; they should not be left out. On the other hand, Dean does a good job with the exercises on 16th notes and 16th note rhythms. This book, however, is mediocre at best. At this point, the student may better well benefit from working with someone more advanced than they are and they may also want to practice regular music for bass or guitar instead.
