Rating: Summary: Delectable Friendship Review: COFFEE CUP FRIENDSHIP AND CHEESECAKE FUN I had never liked coffee or cheesecake until it was served up with fanciful flair by gourmet humorist Becky Freeman in her delightful book Coffee Cup Friendship and Cheesecake Fun. Without the calories or caffeine, Freeman captures the sweetness and stimulation that only a good, strong friendship affords. This queen of Christian comedy always has something delicious perking in sometimes silly, often sensitive true vignettes, where her own life usually becomes material for jesting. With humility and vulnerability Becky laughs at herself, and we laugh with her, and just maybe as a result, gather courage to laugh at ourselves. Most of all, Becky gives us the gift of learning how to cultivate camaraderie with our friends, loving each other through thick and thin. This book is chocked full of recipes for fruitful friendships, ripe with hilarity, tears, encouragement, challenge, and joy. It also contains scrumptious dessert and dinner recipes guaranteed to please the palate. No doubt the pleasure will be all yours as you pull up a chair, pour a cup of coffee, slice a piece of cheesecake, and devour the insights of this delectable book! -Lynn D. Rating: Summary: A GREAT book about friendship! Review: I LOVED this book! It was funny, heart-warming and refreshing. I couldn't put it down. I loaned it to a friend who read it cover to cover and returned it in less than a week! Becky Freeman is a REAL mom with lots of stories to share that every woman can relate to and laugh with. She has a wonderful sense of humor about herself and her hilarious situations. Yet, she is inspiring in many ways. This is the fourth book I have read from this author and I am collecting as many as I can--as fast as I can!
Rating: Summary: Average...too much boasting by author Review: This was the first book I have read by Becky Freeman, and honestly I was not impressed. Although the general concept is great of "categorizing" your friends and understanding how each pulls together to create the quilt of our life. I was very annoyed by the constant bragging done by Mrs. Freeman on her accomplishments and the name dropping of all the friends she has. I felt those elements greatly detracted from the overall message. I understand that in writing a book concerning friendship and the part each particular friend plays in our life; it could be quite difficult to pull off with stories of the author's personal friends. Yet, I felt she could have accomplished the concept without the actual names of the people, as well as the locations of varioius arenas in which Mrs. Freeman is able to socialize with her friends. It is difficult for the average American woman to relate to those scenerios and it sounds an awful lot like "look at me and how far I have come and all the well-known friends I have" Truth be told, had the work not included some great recipes and stories/quotes from other writers I would have definately rated this book lower. Great concept, horrible way to bring it together.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT book about friendship! Review: While this book has some good recipes and quotes, the stories that Freeman tells of her friends are not what I was looking for. It would be interesting to read about different types of friendships, not one woman's account of going to the movies with so-and-so and every detail that happened. I was disappointed.
