Rating: Summary: Best of the Best Review: Easily the best of the Star Trek books. It's just too bad that Sonni Cooper didn't write any of the movies. Unlike many other books that try to be episodes, Cooper went beyond the simple do-nothing formula and made a real adventure with a story that was much better than the average episode-wannabe book.

Rating: Summary: Back fire Review: I am a fan of Star Trek, mainly DS9 and Next gen. But I do not mind pulling out an original Trek novel and giving it a read. However this one is lost in warp space. The author seems to be having difficulty with Trek in general. The Characters I will admit must not be easy to do or the universe itself. But some do it better than others and this one just doesn't come together. The plot seems jumpy and put together rather than a smooth progression. The characters just don't seem right. If you have to have every Trek book then get it. Otherwise you may want to give it a miss.
Rating: Summary: The Life and Times of Spock the Pirate Review: I loved this book, I read it about once every year. Spock in cloak-and-dagger mode is intriguing. As for an earlier comment,(SMALL SPOILER) his suicide attempt was, in fact, quite logical. He was crippled and his companions would not escape (and thereby warn the Federation) without him.(END SPOILER) As far as behaving as we would expect the characters do, I thought they did, especially the Spock-McCoy relationship. Nothing in the book was unreasonable, nothing insofar unreasonable as a lot of Star Trek V (the crew turning on Kirk for example) which is canon while Black Fire is not. BF is an excellent read, like a lot of the 80's ST novels like the Entropy Effect.

Rating: Summary: Dissapointing. Review: I'm a big Star Trek fan, but I didn't really like this book at all. I didn't even finish it, because reading it felt like the piece of metal that was wedged into Spock's back. And I know that the ST novels are set outside the regular Star Trek continuity, but the jump from Original Enterprise to first movie Enterprise in just a few months after an onboard explosion? Give me some credit.I'm planning to release my copy via BookCrossing at a movie theatre after Star Trek Nemesis opens, so I hope it'll end up with someone who'll like it more than I did.
Rating: Summary: One of the poorer Classic Trek efforts Review: In my reviews of Classic Star Trek novels, it must be understood that I adhere to the original canon as invisioned by Gene Roddenberry, and not the "Star Trek" universe accepted by Rick Berman and company. I generally rate a classic novel thus: Adherence to Canon -- does this novel adhere to the vision of the original Star Trek? To a certain extent. 2.5 stars Believability (within the confines of 23rd century Star Trek viability) -- is this novel well-plotted and well written? Can I picture this novel or imagine myself in it? No! Plot is pretty silly. Coherence and Consistency -- does this novel internally consistent? Is it consistent with other Star Trek novels by the same author? Is it consistent with what is known of the CLASSIC Star Trek universe? No! It's quite difficult to fit this storyline with any amount of reasonability within the traditional "Classic Trek" canon. Mitigating Factors -- pluses or minuses which dramatically affect the enjoyment of this book. Minus one for a suicidal Spock. Sorry, just doesn't work for me!
Rating: Summary: One of the worst Trek novels Review: In _Black Fire_ you get a hackneyed plot, which revolves around a piece of fabric. It's slow-going and the reader often wonders what is motivating the characters. It doesn't surprise me that this is the only Star Trek novel Sonni Cooper ever wrote. Considering the possibilities inherent in Star Trek and in science fiction, this book is a loser.
Rating: Summary: Cheesy fun Review: So Leonard Nimoy would probably never play Spock this way. But this book is FUN! Especially for romantic Spock fans who like to see him play the rogue. A fun, light read for Spock lovers everywhere.
Rating: Summary: probaly the best star trek book ever Review: this book starts out with a bang(literally). there is an explosion on the bridge. captain kirk is near death. spock and several other crew members are also seriously injured. against dr. mccoy's strict orders, spock and scotty investigate this incident and find a whole new threat to the federation. along the way they team up with romulans which ultimately leads to spock being put on trial for being a traitor. this book has so much suspense in a short novel that it is unbelievable. a must read for all star trek fans.
