Rating: Summary: A wonderful book for Collage-Making Review: My name is Alfredo. I intercepted this book from my mother's library because of the sublime victorian prints that it contains. As soon as I opened it, I knew that it would have to be introduced to the old scissors and glue- a la Max Ernst. There are some very amusing quotes in there from women such as Gypsie Rose Lee to Lucrecia Borgia and Mae West. The pictures are the best. I've produced some of my finest oneiric collage-work with the material I found there. I am currently ordering two more copies.
Rating: Summary: "Time wounds all heels" Jean Ace (1905-1974) Review: This is a side splitting collection of womens wit and truisms spanning 700 years on the inter-actions and habits of men, each quote is a gem with wonderful illustrations of Regency and Victorian etchings. "Estimated from a wife's experience, the average man spends fully one-quater of his life looking for his shoes" "When a man can't explain a womans actions, the first thing he thinks about is the condition of her uterus" Clare Booth Luce (1903-1987) The book casts an accurate reflection on the social habits and accepted practices of the various authors eras, from expected female domesticity and the all importance of aquiring a husband.. "When you see what some women marry, you realize how they must hate to work for a living" Helen Rowland to the realization that marriage is not alwyas a happy ever after.. "I married beneath me, all women do" Nancy Astor "Roland has the inner life of a tree, or possibly a stump" Margaret Atwood (b 1939) These are just some of the wonderful quotes in this little book, and if for no other reason than seeing womes lives over the centuries written with a keen eye, I would reccomend this book to anyone who like to laugh.
