Rating: Summary: Good. Review: I think the concept of this series of books is great, because it effectively introduces the vocabulary of some of the greats in jazz, through ii, V, I, ii-V and ii-V-I's which traslates to most of the jazz literature. This will not substitute for actually transcribing these giants, but it gives you an idea of their ideas and can be helpful tool in transcribing, because these ideas now already exist in your head. It would be nice with some analysis of the individual examples, even if you analyze it yourself. It would make it much more clear and smooth. Also I checked the ratings on Mel-Bay and it suggested beg. to int. for this book! This is wrong!! Parker is rated int. to adv. Well, Coltranes vocabulary is somewhat more advanced than Birds and the concepts in this book are definitely advanced!!
