Summary: Just Buy it and See
Review: I bought this book for my wife becuase she was going through some rough times, and when she was done she thanked me for being such a thoughtful husband. My wife said the way Miss Richman took charge of her life, despite her adversities, made her ashamed of herself for feeling so sorry for herself when all she needed was a good attitude adjustment. She said she never suffered nearly as much as Miss Richman, but after reading the book, she found that she could change her way of thinking just by using the tools that Miss Richman offered, namely positive thinking and laughter, a very potent combination. I was so impressed with my wife's impression of the book, I read it myself, and was duly impressed as well.
Huzzahs to Miss Richman for her honesty and bravery.

Summary: SHEER JOY
Review: I CAN'T RECALL READING A MORE INSPIRATIONAL BOOK. IT SEEMS THAT NO MATTER WHAT LIFE HANDED HER, LINDA RICHMAN FOUND A WAY TO FIND HUMOR IN HER SITUATION. HER ATTITUDE TOWARDS LIFE'S HARDSHIPS HANDED ME A ROADMAP THAT I HAVE USED AS A GUIDE. I'VE BOUGHT SEVERAL COPIES AS GIFTS FOR FRIENDS. I'D RATHER LAUGH IS FUNNY, TENDER AND WELL WRITTEN. BRAVO MS. RICHMAN. I HOPE THERE ARE MORE BOOKS ON THE WAY!

Summary: incredible insight
Review: I have to honestly say..I bought the book because of the wonderful reviews for the most part and then the bad reviews from a couple..I wanted to see for myself..and this is what I saw..I read about life as it is to many of us..of an ordinary woman who had extraordinary experiences and made choices about how to live her life in spite of what was handed to her. For those that didn't understand what this book was about..I can say you just didn't get it. Linda Richman is someone to look to when the dull and everyday horrors that life hands us want to pull us down..She is an example of what you can accomplish when life tells you that you don't have a chance. Thanks Linda a work well done..

Summary: I'D RATHER LAUGH NOW MORE THAN BEFORE
Review: i just read an unfavorable review of this remarkable book and frankly i'm shocked..

never before have we needed to learn to laugh in the face of tragedy..

i've read I'D RATHER LAUGH 3x now and i seem to get so much more of out of it every time i read it. Is linda's life any worse than others..... some yes, some no. its not a contest.. it's how one handles the tragedies that befall us and this alone is worth the price of the book.

i have been to a lecture given by linda here in arizona and when i left i felt better... i felt i finally found someone who understood how life can beat you up and you can continue to go forward.. as for blaming her mother, i got the sense that her mother was difficult but i never felt linda did anything but show great compassion and understanding for this woman. i know for myself, to look at the past and understand what made you the person you are is invaluable. this is what linda has done and done well. as is said.... a life unexamined is not worth living.

in the times we live in right now, i urge you all to read this book.. its filled with what we need most at this present time... HOPE AND FAITH that we can overcome anything.

Summary: woman of strength
Review: I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who needs to laugh, be uplifted and feel good. You don't have to have lost a child (although I did) in order to enjoy this book and get the goodie out of it. I have read countless grief books since my son died but this book has helped me more than any of them. She actually made me cry and laugh at the same time and laughing is not something that I do a lot of since my son died.

This book is for anyone...anyone who likes to laugh and who has a good sense of humor. Linda Richman is a gem!!

Summary: This book makes a lot of sense
Review: I'D RATHER LAUGH is a self-help book without the trappings of torture necessary to be labeled as part of the genre. Instead, Linda Richman encourages laughter as the best medicine when tragedy strikes as will happen to everyone at some time in their life. Ms. Richman provides amusing anecdotes (her mother at Bingo reminds me of my mother-in-law who recently passed away). Other reactions to anguish that Ms. Richman has done are similar to what many people have done to pass time and simply cope with negative punches. Cleaning and reorganizing things are a way of life for the depressed during a depressing moment.

This book is worth reading not just when "life has other plans for you", but in everyday situations. Ms. Richman swears by humor to make it through the darkest day. I fully agree. When my mother-in-law died, her three sons, who still love her dearly, told amusing tales about her antics. Those jocular moments were not disrespectful, but a way of remembering a cherished person who is missed but will always be fondly thought of.

Summary: woman of strength
Review: Linda Richman has provided her women readers with an honest, charming, uplifting true story of personal triumph over emotional darkness. Through her experiences the reader can learn valuable tools on coping with negative emotions. For readers who enjoy this book, I would further recommend Candles in the Darkness, a similarly inspiring true story of women triumphing over crises with humor, faith and friendship.

Summary: The Human Spirit at It's Best
Review: This is a book for everyone. It will show you that even when life gets you down you have the power to rise up again. Linda Richman is an amazing woman. It must be a unique privilege to know her. She is to be admired for her strength and courage. Her ability to laugh again after being faced with some of life's most difficult adversities will be an inspiration to everyone who reads this book. It will give you hope that you too can laugh again no matter what life has in store for you. One of the things that touched me deeply was the desperation she felt and the things she did to hold on to her sanity and find her way back to living after her son's tragic death. However, her wonderful style of humor keeps the book uplifting and ever hopeful. I loved reading this book and Linda's easy writing style. I highly recommend this book and after you have read it you will feel as though you have made a new friend in Linda.

Summary: I'd Rather Cry,This Book Was So Bad.
Review: this is a very touching and funny book. linda had to overcome some enormous obstacles and yet has a very skewed and funny way of seeing things. her relationship with her mother was difficult and she pulls no punches about that. what i loved was that this book is honest, gut wrenching and humorous all at the same time. linda sees life as i wish i did. as rosie o'donnell said in the introduction, linda is who she is and by being herself she enhances everyones life around her. i wish i could know her. her strength and courage is catching.
i read this book in one day and was left wanting more.ihope she writes more and more and more.
i was lucky enough to be at lindas lectures and i laughed and cried the whole time. at the book signing she was warm and gracious and compassionate. i feel very lucky to have found linda and this wonderful book.

Summary: Grab a box of Kleenex and a box of Depends!
Review: You're gonna need the Kleenex for chapter four, Losing Jordan, but you'll recover when you slap on the Depends for the Pity Party! This book is incredible, as Ms Richman tells the story of her life, from growing up in a dysfunctional family, not even knowing that her father was dead until she was a teenager, to being agoraphobic and married to a compulsive gambler, to the most tragic event of all, losing her only son in a car accident. Ms Richman is a testament to how a person can survive life's worst cruelties, and rise above them. If you have known any pain in your life, I suggest you read I'd Rather Laugh. You will understand that you aren't alone, and Linda Richman will linger in your mind long after you finish the last page.
