Summary: Ambitious, but flawed
Review: I've known about the Rockdetector website for a while now and every time I would go there they would be promoting their books on their site. They had every type of rock book you could think of there. When I found out they had an 80's rock book, I knew I had to have it. Since Rockdetector is in the UK, there was no way that I could get the book, especially since I don't have a credit card. I had an Amazon account, so I decided to check there. They had some of the other books in the series, but not this one. Eventually, many months later, they finally got it in.

On Friday, June, 4 my book finally came in. I was expecting it to be the History of Hair Metal, but it turned out to be just a dictionary of Hair Metal bands. This book was just like their site. A to Z of '80s Rock is a very ambitious book, at 735 pages, but falls flat in some very obvious ways. Just on the knowledge I've collected as a 20 year old, I've been able to find the faults. In well known bands they leave out the most important parts of their history. Unless I'm blind, they left out the whole part about Twisted Sisters history with the album Stay Hungry. With Firehouse they didn't mention the album Hold Your Fire. With some bands they didn't even list all of their albums. Other bands like I, Napoleon, Slik Toxik, and Crystal Roxx weren't even mentioned at all.

I found all of those mistakes by just glancing through different parts of the book to see what was in it. Just imagine if I, or, brace yourself, somebody who actually lived it, sat down and read through the whole thing. You get the picture.
