Rating: Summary: Scarfone, Stillman, and The Wizardy of Oz OH MY! Review: 60 years ago MGM introduced the Wizard of Oz to audiences around the United States. Then during the 40's and 50's Oz reached almost every country, and has been seen in almost every language. During the 1970's the Wizard of Oz grew a all time popular status that no other movie has done before. Now, Wizard of Oz is America's favorite movie, but what made the Tinman love, the Scarecrow think, and the Lion brave? The Wizard of course, but now the world has 2 more "Wizards of Oz." They are Jay Scarfone and William Stillman. They tell the tales of what went on behind the scenes at the MGM set. Countless blueprints, wardrobe test shots, and publicity photos have filled attics, libraries, and personal collections around the world for the last 60 years. Now, Scarfone and Stillman have done the impossible, and put it all into one book. Various other books such as The Ruby Slippers of Oz, The Making of the Wizard of Oz, and Down the Yellow Brick Road supplied Oz enthusiasts with everything they thought they could ever find on the timeless classic. Wizardry has even more than one could hope. Every page you turn you see something new and exciting. Color photos galore, and even some neat collectibles fill the book to its fullest. Everyone who has ever seen the movie, and wants to know how it was made need this book. Oz collectors will be so thrilled at what these two Wizards have come up with. Everyone is here in rare unseen photos Dorothy, the Witch, Glinda, the munchkins, and yes, Toto too!
Rating: Summary: Top Notch! Review: A great behind the scenes look at one of the most enduring classics of our time! Lots of pictures and even a few blueprints!
Rating: Summary: So Much Information Review: An amazing book. It contains so much information and pictures that I have never seen anywhere else. I think even the biggest Oz fans will learn something new here. I can curl up with it for hours. Cheers to the authors for creating a lovely tribute to the folks behind the scenes during the making of the film, who are so often forgotten, even though they made so many monumental achievements with "The Wizard of Oz". It is often regarded as a "kids film", but as a work of art, it is so much more. You'll get the full story behind the film when you read this book.
Rating: Summary: Journey behind the scenes! Review: As Dorothy went down the yellow brick road to return to Kansas, these writers take us on a journey behind the scenes of this great movie classic. The journey takes us to all the talented people that made the production possible. Through their extensive researh and interviews we get to go behind the scenes and see the blue prints, make-up, costumes, set designs, special effects and so much more. It is full of pictures, many never before in print. You can hardly keep your eyes off the array of photos. This is a great book for those that love this great classic or anyone that enjoys the arts and theatre. The designers and cast went through tremendous changes to make this movie come to life. Today's tehnology would make their job much easier I am sure. I thank these writers for sharing their extensive research with us. L.Frank Baum wrote this wonderful story, MGM made it come to life and these authors showed us how it all happened.
Rating: Summary: A must-have for OZ fans Review: From the moment I opened the book to the first page, I knew this was a gem! I won't give much away, but the photos are fantastic! This book is for anyone who loves the movie, but also, for the individual who is interested in the behind-the-scenes magic that was involved in the 1939 production. The contents of the book are somewhat similar to "The official 50th anniversary pictorial history of the wizard of oz" which was published in 1989. Although the "50th anniversary" edition is no longer in print and difficult to find, this book will defintely capture the heart of Oz fans around the world and carry on the magic of one of the most beloved stories well into this new millenium.
Rating: Summary: From the point of view of a long time Garland fan.... Review: Having been a fan of Judy Garland for over 30 years and the former secty. of THE JUDY GARLAND MEMORIAL CLUB, the movie THE WIZARD OF OZ holds a very special place in my heart. THE WIZARDRY OF OZ really seems to have the spirit of the film. Not only is it a highly interesting "read", but I found the photographs and art work in most cases to be new and refreshing. My favorite photo in the book is a wonderful shot of Judy and her stand in in costume on the set. This photo alone is worth the price of the book to any Garland fan. My hat off to Mr. Stillman and Mr. Scarfone. Charles Triplett, North Carolina
Rating: Summary: GREAT WIZARDRY! Review: I really enjoyed this book. The photos are amazing, and there are so many facts that I did not know in this book. It has new items for older fans and older items for younger fans. I also like the way things are explained on how they work, and the article on Toto. I highly reccomend this book for all Oz fans.
Rating: Summary: PURE MAGIC! Review: Just when you thought you'd read everything there was to know about the 1939 classic film, "The Wizard of Oz," Jay Scarfone and Bill Stillman come up with a volume like this. The behind-the-scenes production drawings and notes and photographs are just incredible. These two men know their stuff, and it all comes together so well in this book. I cannot recommend it enough.

Rating: Summary: Not as good as people say... Review: The Wizardry Of Oz is a gorgeous book! What fun to read. I could hardly put it down. William Stillman and Jay Scarfone have outdone themselves researching what went on behind the scenes to create this beloved movie. The book is Beautifully and lovingly designed by Rita Dubas. Large photographs, at least half of them are in color. A Golden tribute to one of the great movies of the Golden years of cinema! I Had to have this book!
