Rating: Summary: Solid, unique comedy writing... Review: ...and he goes after anyone and everything, despite what some of the bitter, angry, neurotic, self-styled liberal reviewers here would have you believe. I think it was Mark Twain who wrote something like "sacred cow makes the best hamburger"; Miller understands and embodies this.
Rating: Summary: Now I don't want to get off on a rant here.... Review: but Dennis Miller has more common sense in his pinky finger than George W. and the entire pack of DMV-caliber public servants in the Congress. This book has it all. His rant on intolerance was probably the most astute rant he's ever done. His rants on Elvis, Child Stars, and sports are funny as always. This man should be President, Chief Justice, and Supreme Speaker of Common Sense all rolled into one.If you want a cranial clean-out session that makes an enema seem tame this will help clear your head of all the fog put out there in the media.
Rating: Summary: This book is good for wrapping fish Review: Dennis Miller used to have an edge to his work; he was always attacking those in power and made no apology for it. Now, with his recent and self-serving conversion to Bush and his brand of conservatism, he has become a voice for the elite. A comedian can be right-wing (he just might not be as funny), but recent appearances have demonstrated that as he has moved to the right, his comedy has dropped off and his political rhetoric (sans wit) has increased. I am sure his switch was motivated most of all by a resentment of paying taxes (a common thing for former liberals), but at this time, more than ever, we need dissent -- preferably angry dissent -- not fawning defense of the powers that be.
Rating: Summary: Outrageous fun!! Review: I received this book as a gift and let it sit for awhile before pulling it off the shelf last weekend and getting through the pages in a couple hours. Funny funny stuff. Miller has an insight into topics like no one else. I've only seen his show a few times, but I know these "rants" are a collection of the rants from the show. Topics include lousy jobs, education, the Clintons, reality shows, government, football, and the media. No one is safe around Dennis Miller. Sometimes when you watch him live you can't understand half of the stuff he talks about because of his obscure references to other things. Having the book at least you've got it in writing and can double back to see what he was talking about. That makes understanding him a whole lot easier and it's even funnier once you understand what he's talking about. If you like his comedy this book is worth having. Funny stuff here.
Rating: Summary: cheaper than toilet paper at 48 cents Review: It's nice to see that this book has found it's price point. Dennis Miller is about as funny as colon cancer. Someone outta put a rubberband around this guys head so it'll shrivel up and fall off.
Rating: Summary: Stick With Cable-TV Review: Miller has now delved into movies, network television, and print. Virtually all of those endeavors have produced nothing but embarrassing additions to his body of work. Three strikes and you're out Dennis. Do a favor for your potential fans and stick with what you're good at -- monologues on cable-TV. This book is vulgar, not the least bit entertaining, and gives the impression that it was thrown together in a very short time. In fact, it is so bad that I wouldn't be surprised if Miller did nothing more than allow his name to be associated with this sham of an effort.

Rating: Summary: Dennis Is Going With What's Popular, But He's Behind Review: Ok Ok. Maybe my first review of Dennis Miller's book was harsh, so I rewrote it. But what do you expect when reviewing a book from a person who talks complete nonsense?!! Dennis TRIES to be funny, but he fails miserably. Dennis is at his best, when he avoids leaning to the left or to the right. When he could praise and criticized BOTH sides when they deserved it, is when he shined. These days, Dennis has gone from common sense to a complete right-winger. I guess it because these days it's popular to bash Democrats and be a conservative. But I guarantee you, the time of the extreme left is dead and the extreme right will be dead in a few years. There's no place for either in the near future. I suspect that Dennis knows this, which explains why he is trying to seek office. LOL. He missed the boat 9 years ago to be an extreme conservative. Moderates are the ones who will control the political landscape in the future. Perhaps then, Dennis will get it right and become moderate once again. This book is basically him trying to cash in with the time.
Rating: Summary: Can liberals start a boycott too? Review: Twenty years ago if you wanted to hear preachings of hate against most of the world's population, you might have had to attend a Klan rally or Neo-Nazi meeting. You certainly weren't going to see or hear it on television. But now, thanks to our "liberal media" (Ha ha) you can just flip on the government regulated hate box (Radio or TV, the choice is yours.) and be informed that as an American, you are part of the World's current master race. Dennis Miller appeared not once, but twice on the Jay Leno show in February to preach his hip brand of hate. You don't need to turn on the hate box for long these days to hear some hate-mongering toward France, and apparently, Dennis Miller and numerous other media pundits have forgotten that after the 9/11 attacks the French were the first nation to come to the aid of the U.S., flying combat missions in Afghanistan. It's interesting to note that these war-mongering super-patriots are never found anywhere near a battlefield. George W. Bush managed to avoid military service in Viet Nam, and I'm sure that Leno and Miller would have loved to serve in the military, but unfortunately it conflicted with their scheduled dates to play the Ha-Ha Club. Isn't it interesting that Leno always performs with an American flag in his lapel. Here's a guy who makes millions of dollars tearing down this country on a nightly basis, and somehow sees himself as a patriot. Here is the transcript of the first of the two appearances Miller made on Leno in February. I have to let you know that in his subsequent apperance on Leno, February 25th, Miller literally advocated criminal assaults on peace demonstrators!!! It's safe to say that Miller has a lot more in common with the thugs who took over Germany in the 1930's than he'd care to admit.
Rating: Summary: Put Simply--I Laughed Review: What can I say? Dennis Miller makes me laugh. His rambling monologues filled with pretentiousness and profanity make me laugh. He has a sharp, critical eye (which he's not afraid to turn on himself) and I often, though not always, agree with what he has to say. You take comedy with a grain of salt, realizing that its easy to take shots and less easy to come up with real solutions to the world's problems. I sometimes hesitate to give a book like this a really high rating. Will this book change the world? No. Will it be read a year from now let alone 100 years from now? Probably not. And yet, this book made me laugh out loud more than anything I've read in recent months. It made me laugh more than I remember laughing at Miller's earlier rants. And now, in the aftermath of the tragedies lately, it's just what the doctor ordered. Enjoy it for what it is but enjoy it.
