Rating: Summary: Makes a wonderful gift Review: Dear Hello Kitty,
your book is narcisistic
and yet we like it.
you have created
a new level of cuteness
with the toocann suit
Why is it that you
have more eclectic fashion
sense than benetton?
Sometimes I think,
though you are a pretty cat,
you are lonely too.
Though I have known you
since I was a little girl,
what's new, pussy cat?
Love from Tara, Jon, David and Lexi
Rating: Summary: adorable kitty witty cutesey wutsey Review: If you haven't seen this book in person, the concept sounds kinda dorky. But the haiku(s?) are light, fun, slightly humorous, and well-done. Each one has a full-page picture of Hello Kitty standing somewhere in her travels. It would make a nice gift for someone, or a coffee table book to pick up when you need a little smile.
Rating: Summary: Funny, cute, poetic, interesting... Review: If you're a Hello Kitty fan, you'll think this book is the cutest thing in the world. If you're a lover of kitsch you'll likely laugh long and hard at every page. If you have no idea who or what Hello Kitty is, you'll probably stare in disbelief that anyone would ever publish something like this. In any case you'll enjoy the book because it is cute, funny, and a little bizarre. After all, it's a book full of professionally photographed stuffed animals juxtaposed with haiku poems. This sort of thing just doesn't pop up every day.
You can see Hello Kitty in America ("the red, white, and cute", reads the haiku); Hello Kitty in France ("we seek pink berets"); Hello Kitty in space; Hello Kitty flying a stuffed airplane; Hello Kitty as the devil; Hello Kitty as a mermaid; Hello Kitty by the pool; Hello Kitty in the pool; Hello Kitty surfing; Hello Kitty in a kimono; Hello Kitty roller blading; Hello Kitty dressed in what looks like black leather. Just about every tasteful thing you can imagine Hello Kitty doing is in this book.
Two designers from Sanrio (yes, the Japanese company that created Hello Kitty) collaborated with a Basho scholar from Pennsylvania to create this book. Altogether it makes for a very entertaining read no matter what level one approaches it at. It definitely scores points for uniqueness.
Rating: Summary: Super cute! Review: This book is really, really cute and fun and great for the Hello Kitty fan of any age. The worst thing about it is the temptation to use it as a catalogue for Ebay purchases! Seriously this is loads of fun- beautiful, cute pictures, cute haiku- great for the little girl in all of us!
Rating: Summary: Haiku Laden Feline Travel Tome Review: This has to be the strangest review that I have ever written, as I normally write about current scientific thought, aerospace, and cinema. Though I am not personally a Hello Kitty fan, I purchased this as a birthday gift for a friend who is. I was getting ready to wrap the book when I decided to look inside. In a matter of minutes I had read the entire book which consists of Hello Kitty beautifully photographed in a variety of odd settings, accompanied by a pertinent haiku. My personal favorite was the sailing haiku, to wit:
Spray of Blue Ocean,
I neglect to trim the sails.
Let's not capsize, please!
The book will please the Hello Kitty lover in your life; I know it certainly will in mine.
Rating: Summary: if you buy it, you know what to expect... Review: You'll see Hello Kitty doing all sorts of girly things in different countries, all with charming pictures (much like the Blythe book), styled with haiku poetry. while the book really offers little in real educational value, it may get your kid interested in the world, poetry, and/or photography, all of which are good, wholesome activities. For just around $10, buy and consider it a cute alternative to most coffee table books.
