Rating: Summary: The Truth and Power of the Voice Revealed Review: At long last, here is a book which professional singer and novice alike can read and understand the true power and spiritual connection of the human voice. Miriam Jaskierowicz Arman has given the musical world a priceless gift with her book THE VOICE: A SPIRITUAL APPROACH TO SINGING, SPEAKING AND COMMUNICATING. With so much emphasis these days on short cut, fast result vocal methods which push singers into professional careers and repertoires that ultimately ruin fine voices, Ms. Arman has gone back to the old school, the "Golden Age" of singing and vocal production to show that there is really no mystery surrounding proper healthy vocal production. In fact, she herself tells us that the natural knowledge of the voice is innate within all of us. We must un-learn all that the stresses of life have put upon our voices and go back to the type of natural vocal production found in newborn babies. It is a thoroughly interesting and comprehensible book and the theories put forth are indeed the road to limitless vocal achievement. In reading this gifted artist's contribution to vocal pedagogy, one must put aside the strictured thinking of today and allow themselves to be taken on a journey of sorts into the realm of visualization and the spiritual. One must let go of preconceived ideas and limits and explore areas of one's own artistry as yet untouched. I would commend this book to all singers and say to them that Miriam Arman's writing truly reaffirms the concept that music is a universal language and that within her universe, the possibilities are limitless.
Rating: Summary: Finding correct technique Review: Dr. Arman's book is the first book I've read that actually takes you step by step into finding your natural voice. It helps you to make your speaking and singing voice the same, and brings you to a point where singing can become effortless. I read the book three times, and in beginning to apply the information, thought I connected, but didn't quite. Only with Dr. Arman as teacher do I believe I'll really be able to connect permanently. Nevertheless, after having read perhaps ten books on voice, taken voice lessons, and tried during the past ten years to move my voice in every different direction in an effort to find the best technique, Dr. Arman's book is the only one that gives me hope of connecting. I recommend the book highly. It's clear, concise, and perfectly written to each word.

Rating: Summary: Put a Smile in Your Eyes! Review: It's such a privilege to be writing a review for Miriam's book "The Voice: A Spiritual Approach to Singing, Speaking, and Communicating!" Although I'm not a singer, I found myself enraptured with Miriam's teaching. I love her clear, yet positive and humorous way of explaining the mechanics of the voice, and the process of using it effectively. One can feel the kind smile in Miriam's words as she encourages us to "keep the smile in our eyes at all times!" As a middle school teacher, I use the exercises in the book to help my students learn good breath control in public speaking; breathing through the nose only as if they were "smelling a rose," and knowing that "behind the eyes is where the major work is done!" 'Always put a smile in your eyes'~~Our new motto! Margy M
Rating: Summary: Professional Soprano (cliisanyc@aol.com) from New York City Review: This book is a revolutionary ground breaking work for the singing art form. Ms. Arman teaches the reader how the voice is produced the way the Great Maestri taught the voices of the Golden Age. She understands, explains clearly, and shares her knowledge in an intimate and gracious way with the reader. After studying classical voice at a famous conservatory and with famous teachers, I still was not able to produce effortless, beautiful sound. After reading her book, most serious students can't help but get on a plane and go meet her which is what I did. In one lesson, 13 years after serious vocal studying in 3 major US cities, I found my voice. My experience is a testament to the truth and integrity of the technique outlined in this book. Because of the existence of the information in this book, a whole generation of new singers has the opportunity to bring back the great age of singing. I am absolutely positive that Miriam Jaskierowicz Arman will go down in history as a legend. The work of her students who use the wisdom of this material and who sing on the major stages of the world, are a testament to the fact that she is a brilliant teacher, a great mind, a remarkable woman, and an international treasure to the Art.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book Review: This slender book is packed with a wealth of valuable information, if you take the time to study it. It's definitely not the type you read while falling asleep in an airplane. The main piece of advice is "up and back" and it's really all you need to know. The rest of the chapters flesh out the idea quite beautifully. Invest in this book and you'll soon have a voice that can light up stars.
