Summary: Haunting and Unforgettable
Review: Instead of going deeply into the plot, I will simply say that this is about Jean Rhys' obsession and identification with the character of Mrs. Rochester from Bronte's Jane Eyre. This is one of the most amazing plays I have ever been exposed to; I have seen MANY plays, perfomed by many talented casts, and the only other play to make as strong an impression on me as this is Williams' The Glass Menagerie. However, if you have not read Wide Sargasso Sea or Jane Eyre, it may be a bit hard to follow. Also, the emotional gravity that can so succesfully be conveyed in live performance, is hard to perceive through text. So, even though it is a powerful read, it is even more powerful to watch being performed. If you everget the chance to see this emotionaly arresting play, take the opportunity, because you will regret it otherwise.

Summary: Magnificent drama
Review: This is a remarkable piece of drama which skillfully integrates biographical information from the life of the novelist Jean Rhys with excerpts from Jane Eyre. Written by Polly Teale and performed by Britain's Shared Experience Theatre Company, this is the finest piece of theatre I have witnessed in the past 20 years. The play is fascinating in its structure, striking in its intelligence, and completely moving in its portrayal of the inner life of a truly unique woman.
