Summary: A must-have for all singers!!
Review: I don't think I am exxagerating when I say that this book, along with the CD "The First Lesson", has the capacity to change your life - just as much as it has changed mine. Feeling the strong urge to sing, somehow knowing that there MUST be a way to release a voice you instinctively feel exists somewhere within you, and then feeling frustration over years and years because nobody can really tap in to you and your voice, is a very painful experience - both emotionally and physically. I suffered from a hoarse and paining throat, and felt like an athlete with broken legs. For years. After reading the book, I finally found the answers I had so desperately been looking for on my quest. For the first time since childhood I was able to sing with a powerful voice - for hours. Still my throat was totally unharmed. As a result, I didn't hesitate to fly to Florida - I am from Europe - in order to take private lessons with the author, Ms.Arman. Her personality and personal history finally convinced me that here was something special.
Of course, singing is a process, and it will still take a long time, possibly including some setbacks, for the voice to develop and attain its full potential, but now I know that my voice is growing - not dying. Thank you, Ms. Miriam Arman.

Summary: The simplest theory is usually the correct theory
Review: I first started studying voice when I was 8 years old and worked very hard in choir and competitions, always trying to become a soloist. I never reached that goal and I finally gave up about 5 years later. I was completely convinced that I had no voice and no talent.

Almost 20 years later I finally began singing again, hoping against hope I would find a teacher who would be able to communicate how to place the voice.

I have found that teacher with Miriam Arman's book. Her writing is easy and enjoyable, making the voice not only technically correct but fun to learn. I now also firmly believe that I do have a voice and that it's strong and pure enough for all the classics that I love.

Many of my friends know that I sing and lately have been asking me why my voice has changed so much in such a short time. I owe it to Ms. Arman's amazingly simple, vivid techniques.

Thank you, Ms. Arman, for writing a book that even a tender beginner can understand. And thank you for teaching in such a way as to preserve, not damage, the voice.

I've never sounded better.

Summary: Very helpful!
Review: I found this book very helpful and inspiring. Miriam J. Arman's enthusiasm practically jumps out of the pages -- you will not find her writing boring at all! I especially appreciated the time she took explaining details, since I believe it's not enough to just follow instructions, it's also important to understand why they should be followed.

Summary: FINALLY!!!! a book that reveals the real secret of singing
Review: I have been singing since I can remember. I never took classes as a kid, cause I thought back then that I didn't need them, and it was true back then...I didn't think of what I was doing, I just did it and my voice was at my command at all times, no matter which note I had to sing, or how loud I had to be...Sadly, as we mature and become more aware of ourselves and our surroundings, we start to forget what we used to know innately...I came to a stage in my life ( when my voice changed) when I couldn't rely on my instrument anymore, it seemed to have taken control over me instead!!!

I then decided I should take voice lessons in order to regain control of my instrument...I thought that singing teachers were supposed to help you remind yourself what you knew and could do as a child. So I started taking lessons, I learned all there is to know about vocal apparatus, vocal production, vocal health, but it still wasn't enough, my voice had grown unruly, I had two separate registers, with a big crack in the middle, I was told that I should learn to belt, but something inside told me that belting wasn't right ( with all due respect to belters) that there had to be another way, that I could use my upper range, that it had potential. And my memories as a child were of singing freely and effortlesly, staying in one place at all times...singing was about freedom back then, and it was starting to turn into something that kept me captive and stressed...so I turned myself to books because something inside me told me that there had to be a way of singing like I did as a child...and after a lot of reading and researching I have to say that Ms. Arman's book was exactly what I needed all of my life. I haven't even finished it, I'm still begining to read it, and only four chapters of it have given me more than years of lessons at the piano. She is able to deliver her concepts in such a precise way that you feel like she's right there beside you as you read the book. And she basically uses the technique that was used by the most important and beautiful voices in history, a knowledge that is so simple and easy no wonder we've forgotten it...
Ms. Arman I want you to know that what you've written here is worth more than all the gold and money in the world. You have helped me regain control of my voice, and I've realized that it was just waiting for me...it was waiting for me to call upon it once again as I did when I was a kid. God bless you Ms. Arman, you have no idea what a wonderful gift you possess...I wish you life and health so that you may teach these wonderful secrets to many many more singers...

Summary: Genius yet simple approach
Review: I have been studying with this book for over a year now. And, it has helped me tremendously. Miriam's technique has made singing so easy, fun and rewarding. I have gone from having a good voice to touching the heart's and minds of my listeners in a most wonderful way. The spiritual approach demonstrated in this book not only saved my voice, but I would say it saved my life. I just signed a major record distribution deal. I do believe that this can be attributed to studying the techniques taught in THE VOICE. I have God and Miriam to thank.

Summary: don't get ahead of yourself
Review: i read the book once so far. it's really good, don't get me wrong. but all the gushing reviews make it out to be *the* life-altering missing link that you've sought your whole life to instantly unlock your singing potential. i think the book sends you off in the right direction towards developing a healthy and hopefully beautiful voice. but you, unfortunately, will still have to be patient and put in some hard work. so yes, the book is great, but keep in mind that miriam is not god.

Summary: A Heart, Mind, Voice Map To Producing Sound With The Voice
Review: In reading this book, I was pleasantly surprised to discover a number of the methods I was taught many decades ago, some of which I had forgotten. I am happy to have found it. It serves as both a review and a modern approach for this time and space. I highly recommend it to any singer at any level.

I especially like the style in which it is written to the heart, mind and voice of the reader. One can actually feel the concepts through the words.

Summary: Put a Smile in Your Eyes!
Review: It's such a privilege to be writing a review for Miriam's book "The Voice: A Spiritual Approach to Singing, Speaking, and Communicating!" Although I'm not a singer, I found myself enraptured with Miriam's teaching. I love her clear, yet positive and humorous way of explaining the mechanics of the voice, and the process of using it effectively. One can feel the kind smile in Miriam's words as she encourages us to "keep the smile in our eyes at all times!" As a middle school teacher, I use the exercises in the book to help my students learn good breath control in public speaking; breathing through the nose only as if they were "smelling a rose," and knowing that "behind the eyes is where the major work is done!" 'Always put a smile in your eyes'~~Our new motto! Margy M
