Rating: Summary: Funny and Thought-provoking Review: The female experience is under-written in our culture. That said, amid giggles and guffaws about things I would not like to openly admit (like that breastfeeding can be an uphill climb for some) and appreciating that her frankness has opened my eyes for the struggles that some women experience, I would have problems openly advocating this book to others. Her own tribulations might scare off a new mom to be, and reading it you wonder why nursing is really worth it--especially since she finished weaning at 12 months.
Ofcourse it IS worth it, and she does have some good pointers and helpful information. Her book might help close the chasm between the breastfeeding mothers and the bottle feeding--since really, for some mothers breastfeeding IS just like that scene in the movie and they are clueless as to the struggles of others.
Ofcourse, as a bonafide crank, I know that the book should not have ended where it did--two kids--that that was just the beginning...
Rating: Summary: Utterly Hilarious! Review: Wood Shapiro's book, "How My Breasts Saved the World" is such an honest account of the trials and tribulations in breastfeeding. Having 2 children myself, I found myself laughing and crying and nodding along with every word... I could honestly relate. Read this book now! It's wonderful.
