Rating: Summary: An Essential Guide for All Musicians Review: As a former recording artist turned entertainment lawyer, I highly recommend this book! This is a great basic guide for new musicians (and their managers) who are learning their way around the record industry. It is detailed yet infinitely readable. It is a good reference guide to the ins and outs of getting a record deal - and has other valuable information about the inner workings and politics of getting signed.
Rating: Summary: Powerful! Review: Daylle's books are a wealth of information for the artist who is serious about their craft and wants to make a living from it. As I've stated before she makes daunting tasks seem achievable and her real life experience is absolutely encouraging and inspirational.

Rating: Summary: The First Music Business Book You Should Read Review: Ms. Schwartz explains key terms and concepts that are vital to the understanding of this business. Perhaps the greatest lesson to be taken from this book is that the music business is just that: a business. Ms. Schwartz explains how to approach your music career as a business while maintaining your artistic integrity. Whether you are in a band looking to get signed, an aspiring music executive, or just curious about the music business, this book will point you in the right direction full steam ahead.
Rating: Summary: The definitive primer on getting signed to a record label. Review: THE REAL DEAL should interest both professional and amateur musicians, as well as managers, lawyers, producers, and songwriters working with talented musicians and needing direction and knowledge. All parents with talented children and looking to give qualitative support should also have a look at this title. Written from the perspective of an educator, songwriter, musician, and President of Women in Music, Inc., this book provides practical advice to anyone wanting to break into the music business as an artist. Advice from industry pros such as artists Chuck D., Phoebe Snow, and LeAnn Rimes; record label heads like Karin Berg and Kirk Burrowes; as well as publicists, managers, booking agents, and entertainment attorney provide more valuable information in 288 pages than college courses can provide in an entire semester
Rating: Summary: Poor advice Review: There are many excellent books about the music business - this is not one of them. In fact, it offers several flat out bad suggestions on how to "make it." I am a music industry veteran who has signed and worked with artists that have sold several gold and platinum albums (and some not so successful), and take pride in offering help and advice to newcomers. This is the ONLY book about the business I have read (and I have read many) that I dissuade people from reading. On top of the book offering poor advice it is not set up in the A to Z structure the title implies. Pick up and read books such as The Musician's Business and Legal Guide, Confessions of a Record Producer, All You Need to Know About the Music Business or Everything You Better Know About the Music Business instead. You will be much better off.
Rating: Summary: Every Hip Hop Entrepreneur should add this to their booklist Review: This book is one that we at nichemarket recommend highly in our Booklist for any Hip Hop Entrepreneur serious about a career in the music industry!
Rating: Summary: My music biz bible! Review: This book is the best I've read on how to get a record deal. Actually, there are no other books out specifically on this topic. Ms. Schwartz has organized a lot of great information into a concise book. She includes lots of specific things that are common sense but we still don't remember to do. I've read it twice already, there's so much info packed into each chapter. I'm putting out my own CD and the info in the Real Deal was very relevant since I'm trying to get a distribution deal. It's also great for artist development. I read her other book, Start & Run Your Own Record Label and got just as much out of this one. They have different info - she didn't rehash much so you have to read both. The Real Deal is the real deal - she tells how hard it is to get a deal. But it offers lots of motivation and a good spiritual attitude. Thank you Daylle Deanna Schwartz for writing such informative books!

Rating: Summary: Packed with lots of up-to-date information. Review: This is the most comprehensive book written about the music industry, in many capacities. By far, this title is better than any I have seen! There are so many actual companies listed in the back of the book that it is a MUST HAVE BOOK for anyone that has just finished a song/record/CD/cassette, and is looking for a recording deal; or if you are an owner/promotor of a record company/artist/band, there are many companies and organizations to help you get your music out there, and to the right people! This is really an A to Z true story. Run, don't walk, to obtain this title. At this low price, it might be running off the store shelf
