Rating: Summary: Geri Halliwell in writing Review: I loved "everythang" about the bio! Geri Halliwell tells it like it is. I found Geri to be Quite straight forward and optimistic. The ex Spicegirl has been down an obviously "bumpy" road, to reach her fame. "If only..." digs deep into her life, almost word for word, as she lived it. As an avid bio reader, I chose this book to add to my collection. In many ways can this book relate to the "on the go" lifestyle of many pop or rock stars. The book contains 18 pages of rare photos of the blonde beauty, revealing some censored photos of the past. She tells how her "late blooming" led to her first attempts at a career going nowhere. She sees herself as somewhat of a "chameleon", as her style had changed almost day in and day out. Some parts of the book are emotional, seeing she wrote the book, so you can imagine how the girl felt. I call this book a definite "gem" for her fans "If only..." is a great handbook or guide to keep oneself on track. I wish the book were to be released with an interview VHS. Maybe one day there'll be one. Most books are commercial and full of useless talk, but Miss Halliwell has written a hard to put down book. I was also amazed at just how well the Spicegirls worked as a team. True teamwork and Girl-power, I say! I have 2 feelings about the overall of the bio. One is that I have found the book a bit too wordy, but then again, she gets her point across pretty well! For Halliwell fans, get the book! You won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: If Only.... Review: If ever there was a book that described one's personal battles to overcome so may obstacles, it would be this one. "If Only" brings you through the highlights of Geri Halliwell's life, the successful and the traumatic. It explains the troubles she endured as a child as well as her dreams. She explains how determined she was to follow her dreams and become an international pop star. She makes it quite clear how she uses her fame, as well as her heart of gold, to try to enrich teh lives of those less fortunate than her, being familiar with having very little. her story should be an inspiration to all of us, and just goes to show that fame and fortune don't necessarily solve all of life's little problems. Three cheers for geri Halliwell, as well as for her partner at rest, Ginger Spice.
Rating: Summary: A Good Role Model? Review: This book depicted the life to date of Geri Halliwell from rag to riches. It told me the other aspect of Geri that I never knew. It's saddening to note that behind the limelight, she was a shattered person, wanting reassurance from her loved ones. Her growing pains were enormous & should I have a daughter like her, I would have died of heart attack. It's comforting to know that she knows when to turn back & time has definitely molded her into a persona which Madonna would be proud of. The highlight of the book would have to be her telling us the formation of the team which would subsequently be known universally as the Spice Girls, thus, the term, Girl Power. We also have a glimpse of the eventual sacking of their Manager, Simon Fuller & the reason why Geri decided to pull out in the end. The book is blessed with optimism ie. if you think you have the right stuff to make things happen, just do it as she's a living example that persistency does pay off. Probably luck has something to do with it but when it comes down to the crunch, attitude matters too. Thumbs up to her for her honesty & I wish her all the best for her future endeavour.
Rating: Summary: A heart warming tale Review: It is impossible to ignore someone like Geri Halliwell. Not only is she a journalists dream, an excellent showperson, and a all round survivour, she has now proved herself a compatent writer also with her auto biography "If Only". Charting her rise to the dizzy heights of super stardom from her humble beginning in Watford, England, "If Only" is a little masterpiece given to her fans. Rock on Geri!
Rating: Summary: From Geri to Her Fans Review: Geri couldn't give her fans a better present!!Much better than her debut solo album, this book is very satisfying. The fans who have always believed in Geri would be pleased to know what was REALLY going on in her life before the Spice Girls and after them. I, as a dedicated Geri fan, loved this book.If you like Geri and believe in her, you'll too.
Rating: Summary: Inspiring Autobio Review: Geri Halliwell certainly has balls for writing her life story when she's only 26. But what a story it is! We learn of her short-comings as a child in Watford, the pain she went through trying make a relationship with her parents and many other hardships. The thing I like best about this book is its inspiring core. Geri tells the horrid details of being bullimic and anorexic, but how she fought her battles and strived to become a better woman. The thing I dislike about the book? She tends to drop a few names here and there. Debbie Harry...Courtney Love...Madonna...all women who helped pave the way for Geri. In the long run, although she's not that old, she certainly has had one hell of a story so far; one that should not be missed by anyone seeking some personal inspiration and something to 'lift them up.'
Rating: Summary: If Only...(I hadn't picked up this book) Review: So, I admit it. I read If Only. And I also admit that I cried. I wept mostly for the lost time, but I also shed a tear or two for the wasted potencial of this book. I'm not a Spice Girl fan, but I do admit that tumoltuous lives intrigue me. Marilyn Monroe, Princess Diana, Geri Halliwell. The memoirs are rambling, redundant and incoherant. Between the fluff, however, are moments of joy, sadness, and insight. Brief moments, mind you. If you're willing to to read through fluff without wearing the rose tinted glasses of a Spice fan, you may find it worth your time. Not likely, but one should never say never.
