Rating: Summary: Geri Halliwell's suprisingly elegant and soulful book Review: Picking up this book, one tends to already guess that it would contain silly, brainless ramblings of a pop singer. Former Spice Girl, Geri Halliwell, however proves yet again that society and the media at large, underestimated the intellect of a sex symbol (Marilyn Monroe and Madonna had the same problem). This book chronicles Halliwell's rise from humble beginnings to an insane peak, and leaves off, after her quiet retreat from the spotlight. Halliwell discusses her bouts with eating disorders and depression with frankness and candor, and eschews the cattiness some of her former band mates have exhibited. Instead, she heaps laurels on her ex-colleagues, which makes the remaining Spice Girls look petty. The most amazing thing about this book, is the dignity and grace in which Halliwell stays in, despite her tales of tawndry and seedy photo shoots. Her wit is that of almost a sage, and she writes with a wisdom of experience. Celebrity autobiographies aren't usually very successful because the writer isn't completely unbiased. Halliwell seemed to have escaped the trap, and is extrememly realistic, yet still optimistic and ambitious, about her place in pop music history. It is gratifying, at least to see that Halliwell has achieved much solo success in her native UK, since after finishing the book, you can't help but not only feel genuine affection for her, but you also feel admiring respect.
Rating: Summary: Thumbs up Geri Halliwell! Review: I read this book a few days ago and I couldn't put it down! Geri Halliwell is a brutallly honest and frank person ,one who isn't afraid to tell you about the more embarrasing parts of her life.I found her to be very down to earth and a very funny person. In short, she is REAL! She tells an excellent tale of her claim to fame, including the ups and downs. For those of us who like to read about famous people Geri has given us a book that I'm sure anyone can relate to.She tells it with humour, sadness and honesty, even telling the world about her eating disorder. What made me like this woman so much is that even after all the bitterness and nasty comments that seem to have surfaced from the other Spices,Geri maintains a friendly approach towards other members of the band. This could have been the ideal opportunity for Geri to have her say but she remains a lady and doesn't slag off the other girls.Good to see that she is using her fame in a positive light. Good on you Geri for opening up to us and giving us an excellent insight into one of the worlds most succesfull bands!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: "If Only" shows the world just who lies beneath Ginger Spice; a shy, direction-less girl from the poor side of the tracks desperate to be somebody. Her recollections are at times both painful and funny, and the prose is well written. That was one of the nice things about the book - Geri wries like a person putting her thoughts to paper (not like so many others who try to cram as many 'big-sounding' words as possible to make themselves seem smarter). She comes across as an intelligent yet falliable person whose dreams of success came true, and is much the wiser for it.I highly recommend this book (in fact I think that young girls everywhere should read it, if only to discover how damaging false self image can be). I look forward to reading the sequel "For The Record", which picks up where "If Only" leaves off.
Rating: Summary: Must read! Review: Hi, My name is Chris, and I have been a fanatic of the Spice Girls, since they hit the scene in '96. When I first met these 5 lasses from Britian, Geri I think had to be my least favorite. After she left the Spice Girls, I had to say...I didn't care. When she came out with her solo CD, 'Schizophonic' I could have cared less. Then, I heard her single 'Look at Me' and read somewhere online, the message behind it. I bought the CD, and have not stopped listening to it since. When she came out with her book, I had to buy it. Geri Halliwell, has to be one of the most talented singers I have listened to in a LONG time. She has gone from nothing, to being a world-wide star. Her book, 'If Only' goes through the rollercoasters of everyday life. From relationships, to suffering from an eating disorder, to become a pop star. And NOT overnight, as some television reporters have said. In my life(being 17) I have read, a total of 2 books from cover to cover. When I bought 'If Only' I could not put it down, and finished it in two days. This is one, if not the only, real book that EVERYONE should get their hands on.
Rating: Summary: This book proves Geri is the most talented of Spiceworld Review: This book is great, funny, amusing and even sentimental: thisis a must read book which had me coming back for more. If Only is arefreshing breath of fresh air to all the media trash that is written about Geri all the time. At last with this book she has proved she can write a book as good as she can write her song lyrics. If Only also answers the question "why did you leave the spice girls?" And unfortunately your just gonna have to buy the book, and give something towards the breast cancer charities. A funny, charming and inspirational insight into the life of Geri Halliwell.

Rating: Summary: third times a charm Review: I was die hard spice girls fan when i was growing up, i had bought the Geri Halliwell book, 'If Only' a long time ago, bit i didn't get around to reading it. I mean i started it twice but never finnished it. Well, 5 days ago i picked it up and didn't put it down till just a few minutes ago when i read the last sentance of the last chapter! Normally i hate to read but the book intrigued me. I was really amazed at how well writen this book is, and Geri Halliwell did an amazing job. She is brutally honest in the entire book, whether it's about her eating disorder, or her glamour modeling, or the reasonings behind her departure form the spice girls in 1998. This book is a great read, trust me cause you're getting this amazing review from a person who never reads and doesn't even touch a book over 100 pages! I reccomend this book to any one who is in need of some girl power, or just self impowerment! Read It!!!!
Rating: Summary: The Dream Is Alive...You Can Run to the Hills Every Night. Review: I started to read this book in the beginning of the year 2002 and I finished it fifth septemper 2003. I had read only about fourty pages in a year but finally I stated reading it more. I couldn't stop. This story caught me with it like hurricane. I had to know what's happening next. Well, the beginning may not be so interesting when she tells about her family but I was interested in it. I realized that Geri was almost like me when I was young, maybe his family was even poorer than mine. Geri tells almost everything about her relatives, her very good brother Max, her mother and father. Her father was closer to her than her mother. Geri tells about how she at first started to be a dance girl in the bars, a glamour model etc. She even was in a Turkish program. She had many jobs and she tried very hard, and as a stroke of luck she got an oportunity to be in a girl band. She had to learn hard and finally she was a very good singer and dancer. There's very much about the Spice Girls times. She tells how were her relationships to Spice Girls during the time. Who was the nearest person to her and why she left the Spice Girls. SHe tells about the media who was telling lies and always watching her. She tells about her charity work also very much. Geri was a person, just like every one of us. She had only luck, she worked hard, she was very ambititious. She was a friendly person, she had feeling just like us. She cried, was happy, was said, she laughed etc. She made very good job in Africa and everywhere to help the people to know about the cancer and other stuff in the health care. She tells a different kind of story about Africa that we may think. This story is not only an excellent story about Geri Halliwell, "Ginger Spice" but also a good book for all those who want to know the advantages and disadvantages of being famous. Some things changes when you don't have to do everything. You become more vulnerable if it all disappears. This is also a good book for those who think that famous people aren't like normal persons. For me this book was a good psycological treatment. It touched me and helped me to keep on living.
Rating: Summary: If Only There Was a Little More Detail Review: Wow, Ms. Halliwell certainly went through something to achieve fame and fortune. Then she reinvented herself when she went solo. I sometimes couldn't put this book down because it was so catchy. Even though Ms. Halliwell has a penchant for being a good liar, many accounts of her life seem like they were open and sincere. But there will always be disputes, even if Ms. Halliwell says that everyone has his or her version of the truth. For example, did she share the popcorn she stole at the Tank Girl audition with Victoria Adams (the future Posh Spice) as she claimed she did? Adams (later Beckham) mentioned in her autobiography that she refused the popcorn because it was stolen. Did Ms. Halliwell leave the Spice Girls because she couldn't do it anymore, or was it because of a power struggle with a fellow band member? Is she committed to the cause of breast cancer, or is it simply a publicity stunt?
Rating: Summary: Good story Review: In this book Geri Halliwell tells about the difficulties she had in her childhood. I have also difficulties, so it was great to see that she has also had. It made me feel good because now I know I can be a star if I only try. The story is long but it is also very nice. The best book I've ever read after the Bible!!
