Summary: Not the book to buy if you want a COMPLETE video movie guide
Review: I was not very satisfied with Leonard Maltin's video movie guide, so I looked for a better replacement. This certainly wasn't it!!! If I could return it I certainly would. Definitely not recommended. The first three films I looked for on it weren't there. The last 300 pages, used by a Cast Index, could have been better be used to add more films. This is a film guide, not a cast guide!

Summary: The book simplifies and qualifies the seach for good movies
Review: I have found that this is the book that remains permanently on our coffee table for quick reference on any movie. The reviews are pretty well "spot on" and it is easy to access all the catergories at the drop of a hat. I only wish it were a little more manageable in size so that I could take it to the video store with me to help advise on how good a particular movie is. I have not been able to find a similar book that even comes close to the quality of this, a definite "10"

Summary: My son's favorite
Review: The Martin, Porter video guides are the only ones my video watching son will use. We've bought others, but these seem to be the most concise and easy to use as a reference for video viewing.

Summary: Better Than Horrid "Maltin", But Misses Some Movies.
Review: I agreed with theses people much more than terrible Leonard Maltin, ... They gave movies I enjoy pretty good reveiws. Note: Maltin thinks Friday The 13th deserves 1/2 stars. They think it deserves three. I agree. It's not a terrific movie, but it still isn't complete junk. I liked Betsy Palmer. Anyway, Maltin just hates everything, these people seem to try hard to find something good about the movie before calling it awful. Although, the cover shows a shot for American Beauty, but it's not actually in here. And, some of their reveiws are WAY to short. Like, for example, Ghoulies. They said in their reveiw "Gruesome. Rated PG-13 for Violence and Sexuality." What a helpful reveiw, NOT! I, myself, don't beleive in criticts, I just watch a movie and decide whether or not I like it. You should, too. ...

Summary: Wouldnt be without it
Review: I had a copy of l997 book by the same authors. I used it all the time to refer to movies that I had seen but forgot about. Sometimes I would be in a disscussion with some one and couldnt rember who was in the cast and would look it up. It is also good to look at the ratings that it gives. Also it tells where to go to find rare films. It covers cast, directors and the stars. I would recomend this book to anyone who has a interest in movies I myself wouldnt be without it.
