Rating: Summary: It's an affirmation of the Cast and Director indices . Review: We have used the Cast, Director, and Academy Award Indices many, many times! When missing the start of a movie on cable perhaps and trying to remember the title; the cross index is really indispensable, and has settled more than a few debates!! We have used this book and the preceeding ones for our film club selections over the years.
Rating: Summary: The BEST Film Rating Book I Have Ever Used Review: This book covers all the movies I can think of (and not think of.) It truly helps you with deciding on a movie to watch. The 1999 Video Movie Guide is up-to-date, designed in an eye-catching mannor, and extremely informative. Any ture movie lover could not live without it.
Rating: Summary: This book is great reference! Review: I first saw the Video Movie Guide in the store in 1995...then I got hooked. Every year around August-September, I have to buy it. I'll tell you the condition of my books; 1994-98 -- they get a LOT of use:1994: Worn out, cover faded, some pages ripped, back cover bent 1995: Worse shape, page torn out, back cover gone, text faded 1996-1997: Both same shape, cover taped back on, back cover fine, 1996 edition - soda stain on pages 1257-1265 1998: NEW, MINT CONDITION! So, you see, you may need to use this guide A LOT!!! Overall, Mick & Marsha Porter are great movie reviewers!
Rating: Summary: Great movie guide Review: Yes, this is actually a very good movie guide, with useful reviews and accurate (mostly) ratings. Unfortunately it only covers movies that has been released to video (instead of covering all, and marking the video-releases), and in the reviews it still doesn't beat Maltin!
Rating: Summary: the most worn-out book I'v got. Review: I've been reading/using mick and marsha's guide for the past 8 years. In a world full of TV and cinema like todays, it's a must for anybody who's tired of the one word reviews most papers give you. Exceptional value, exceptional information. One drawback, though - a year ago they changed the indexing method and it takes longer now to find a movie by it's title.
Rating: Summary: Complete, accurate, and a GREAT INDEX! Review: Ever rack your brain trying to remember the name of an actor or director associated with a particular movie? Have you ever seen a movie and enjoyed an actor or director and wondered what other movies the director or actor has made? Martin's complete listing of accurate and insightful reviews also acts as a well-indexed reference guide. While this guide lists the films alphabetically, it also indexes them by cast and by director. An AWESOME feature that you will use constantly.
Rating: Summary: The absolute BEST in the business! Review: There is no better video guide available. I've been buying one every year since 1984, and I'm not stopping now. The five stars down to turkey rating gives (with half stars, too), gives more flexibility and specificity in ratings than the traditional 1 through 4 star system. The brief reviews are informative, clear, concise, and funny. DON'T GO TO THE VIDEO STORE WITHOUT ONE AGAIN!!!
Rating: Summary: The most useful guide of its type on the market Review: Considering how tedious it must be to constantly update and check references to compile such a guide, I'm impressed with how well the editors do their jobs. The arrangement of titles is logical and easy to use, and their ratings have been consistent (which certainly helps making a selection at the store). I also prefer their method of including only movies they know are available for rental, unlike other guides.
Rating: Summary: Buy it every year! Review: We found this to be a practical guide when browsing the television listings or the video store. The reviews are right on target (and we found we agreed more with them than Maltin's guide.)
Rating: Summary: A definite must-buy Review: I am updating from my 1995 version, which is falling apart! If you want to see what movies an actor has been in, or that a director has made, just look in the index. I rely on this book like I rely on the dictionary! AND I have found that the reviews are actually useful. Compared to Leonard Maltin's version, this is the one I would definitely pick.
