Summary: BETTER THAN LEONARD MALTIN'S FILM GUIDE
Review: DESPITE SOME UNDERRATED FILMS (PARALLAX VIEW GETS 4 STARS INSTEAD OF FIVE,SAME WITH CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND,BIRTH OF A NATION,PRESIDENT'S ANALYST,APOCALYPSE NOW,A CLOCKWORK ORANGE,ETC),THIS IS A VERY RELIABLE FILM GUIDE AND ENJOYABLE. IT'S GOT A MUCH BETTER CAST AND DIRECTOR INDEX THAN MALTIN'S USELESS ONE.IT ALSO FAVORS MORE MOVIES THAN MALTIN DOES.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The Best.
Review: Have everything. But it would have been exelente if they also could give us the distrubiter. This is so that we can send them letters and ask for old movies to come back to the shelvs... Jørn Bakken Norway

Summary: The most reliable movie guide I've ever seen. It's a gem.
Review: I've been buying the Martin and Porter Guide since 1986. I missed no year, some years I received two copies from my friends. It was for years not easy to get it from here, Budapest, Hungary, but I managed it. I find their opinion the closest to my one in most cases, so "ex post" it is just the best available even here in Hungary. I can just thank the authors, editors and publishers for this excellent review.

Summary: SIMPLY THE BEST MOVIE REVIEW BOOK ON THE MARKET.
Review: This is an excellent book that is far better than Maltin's. A very comprehensive book with well thought out reviews. My only complaint: MEAN STREETS deserves *****!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Buy it for the index
Review: I've been buying this book for 10 years now and the one thing that makes it great is the actor/director index. The reviews are occasionally mind boggling (Godzilla 4 stars? Streetfighter 3 stars? Forrest Gump 5 stars? Oh wait...Americans love that movie) but the index is a godsend, however with imd being so good, I might not need this much anymore. One thing is needed badly...a list of new films in the book.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Excellent Guide
Review: Couldn't get much better. Comprehensive, all-inclusive, and easier to understand that Leonard Maltin. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars id my dissagreement with several of the ratings.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Disappointing
Review: Yes, this is a good alternative to the usuals. BUT many of the new releases at my video stores are not in here--so of what value is this?!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Really Good, Not Perfect
Review: Yes, it is very comprehensive, overall well-written, and contains basically reliable star-ratings...but not always. I found the rating system stupidly uneven (they give one movie 1 1/2 stars, then seem to forget they can do that on another review and give it that dumb Turkey rating). Personal taste also shines through where it shouldn't sometimes: Scream 2 with 2 stars? That one fired me up. Also, blatant actor name mistakes abound, and there are also a couple errors in the cross-index, as Jennifer Love Hewitt is not listed as being in I Know What You Did Last Summer. Basically, I'm saying the editor could do a better job. Maybe 2000's will be excellent, so I'll be waiting. Even so, this is one of the best on the market, and mine is already falling apart from constant use.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Most interesting and informative guide on the market
Review: Not only is this book jam-packed with excellent movie reviews, the cross-references by director and actor make it easy to locate difficult-to-remember titles. But the best part is, they only review movies that you can actually rent. Many of the reviews really tell it like it is, and I really appreciate the wit and humour that the writers put into their reviews as well.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Go with Maltin
Review: This is just a glorified tv guide listing. Only tells you the basics. Maltin tells you who plays whom in some cases, behind the scenes info like cameos, debuts, awards, etc. Sure his reviews aren't that great as a whole but he gives you more information then name, year and running time.
