Description:

The original Heavy Gear was pretty much a dud, thanks to all those lovely bugs and crashes. But the sequel is big, bad, and better than your average giant robot combat game. Completing a mission in Heavy Gear II takes brains and brawn--not to mention a strong stomach, since the zero-G action of those spaceborne missions can send a queasy player running for the Dramamine. Brady's guide to the game will help you master the art of Gear warfare. Beginning with a thorough breakdown of the game's multitudinous weapons, this book gives you all the information you'll need to lead Operation Black Talon. The weapon descriptions, in fact, are a great place to start, since the number of choices can be overwhelming. A complete description of each Gear chassis follows, with somewhat cryptic values assigned to each one. After that, it's on to basic training as you soak up some pointers for Gear tactics. The slim, three-tip section on space combat was disappointing, but the rest of this section is pretty solid. The meat of the book is in the walkthroughs. There are 30 missions in all, and the walkthrough for each is complete if somewhat brief. The book wraps up with a section on multiplayer tips and a series of tables detailing many of the game's statistics. All in all, a good reference for an excellent game. --Michael Ryan
