Rating: Summary: One of the Best Buys Around Review: For those who remember, this is a reissue of the mid-80's six cassette series. However, it's been edited down to one CD by cutting out the narration. This was a great product back then and it's still well worth the price. (The six cassette + book original cost $75 back in the 80's and it was worth it then!) Keep in mind that the skill level is definitely intermediate and up.
This is a wonderfully detailed teaching resource and the solos are chock full of those licks you really want to know -- licks that sound great, not those that a teacher thinks you ought to learn "to help you grow". A previous reviewer claimed that the tunes sounded like C&W but he must have either got the wrong CD or never heard blues before cuz these solos are pure-dee blues. True, the solos aren't the distorted chromatic blurs that some people mistake for blues, but that's a good thing. They include a variety of styles from swingin' 40's and 50's style T-Bone Walker licks to early 60's Freddy King to Stevie Ray Vaughan. (The good Stevie Ray who played straight ahead rootsy blues licks, not the unfortunate faux-Hendrix Stevie Ray.) I learned a heck of a lot from this nearly 20 years ago and you can too.
The only criticism I have is that tab for the rhythm tracks isn't included. But heck, it IS called blues solos. Also the Rockabilly tracks sound more like Bryan Seltzer than Carl Perkins. YUCK!
Remember that these solos are for demonstration purposes only! They're really flashy because the teacher's trying to pack in as many cool licks as he can. Don't try to play like this live or you'll sound like one of those overly precocious adolescent guitar prodigies you always hear at the guitar store.
Rating: Summary: RedNeck Blues Review: I purchased this book because it claimed to contain Lead Guitar styles of Albert Collins, Albert King, B.B. King, SRV, and T-Bone Walker. I first thought they put the wrong CD in the book because the style sounds more country. In addition, the CD has has limited tracks with total playing time of 20 Minutes. The tracks aren't that good. The CD sounds more like Cletus and his friends playing at the local ice house. Not worth the money.

Rating: Summary: Wyatt ROCKS!!! Review: This book was way better when it was in a 6 cassette form that was released in the 80's, but this version still this has loads of useful information to learn. I would recommend that you buy, along with this book, Wyatt's video "Rockin' the Blues".
