Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Absolutely fascinating - transcends its peers three-fold
Review: This must-read is for anyone who has ever wondered about the relationship between venereal diseases and their application to modern Film. Cronenberg's style of writing is extremely poetic, subjective and provocative; his meditations bring forth a Proustian dialogue that is as infectious as it is terrifying. The ideas of a 'biological horror film' are not only discussed, but engage the reader as only the greatest horror writers, past and present, have done; bears comparison to H.P. Lovecraft and Du Maurier.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An intelligent self-portrait of an underappreciated genius.
Review: When "Crash" was due for release in the UK, a national tabloid carried the headline "BAN THIS SICK FILM". Although overblown, it was a statement that was indicative of the popular misunderstanding of Cronenberg's dark genius. He has been in need of a complex study since "Videodrome", his films being such immediately shocking studies of the more disturbing side of human nature. It's an exhaustive study, with depth and scope, that successfully penetrates both his character and his work so brilliantly, that some moments of this book are unforgettable, even hilarious. There's an extensive account of Cronenberg's involvement in the early stages of "Total Recall" (from which he was later withdrawn), plus coverage from the making of all his films up to 1996's "Crash". A fascinating book, about a fascinating man.
