Rating: Summary: Great book for developing style Review: This is a great book that I've been waiting a while for. I have always wanted to know how to play the bluesy piano part from one of the last verses of The Entertainer among other piano parts, and this book shows you how. The book also does a good job of analyzing Joel's music so that it makes more sense and is easier to play. For example, it cites a typical bass line that Joel likes to use to add to basic progressions. It also helps give perspective on the types of grooves in the songs (early rock, latin, etc.). The CD is also helpful. It was a good idea to play the parts with a full band without the vocals so you can hear them better. It also helps when some of the more difficult sections are slowed down and played by just the piano. The only downsides to the book are that a lot of these transcriptions are available in The Billy Joel Keyboard Book and that I wish the entire songs were in here instead of just selected verses and choruses of songs. I would definitely recommend getting this book. The entire Keyboard Signature Licks series is a very good learning resource for people trying to figure out how to play authentic rock and pop piano.
