Summary: a must read with cd
Review: "Inside 3d Studio Viz 3" is an excellent book!

by Jeremy Hubbel and Ted Boardman, (New Riders Publishing)

This book is VERY informative, especially for us new people. ( i have about 6 months mostly "trial by error" experience so far)

The first chapter is a real "eye opener":

"The 3d Studio Viz Interface" has a lot of info that covers the basic essentials of

the Viz Interface, Coordinate Systems, Viewport navigation, using the Mouse buttons, Customizing the Interface, Macroscripts.

(using the Mouse and Mouse buttons was very helpful. This new information was extremely informative for me, how to use the mouse more productively in Viz)

I learned more about Viz and how/why it works just reading this 1st chapter. The information goes beyond just mouse clicks or how to select tools,

and gives you a better understanding of the over-all design of Viz. It explains how things work together and how/why they are put together.

if I may, with the authors permission, list the chapters:

1 The 3d Studio Interface 2 Input and Design Tool Data Import 3 Modeling Design: Fundamental Concepts 4 Architecural Modeling 5 Mechanical Modeling 6 Lighting Design 7 Materials 8 Animation Design 9 Advanced Animation 10 Rendering and Special Effects 11 Output

I would highly recommend this book, for beiginners and advanced 3d graphic artists alike. This book definately will help us in getting started and provides a lot of useful information.

Concise and well written.

Summary: Best 3D Studio Book
Review: Forget any of the other books on Max or Viz. This one is the BEST for Architects & Designers. I learned more from this book than I did in an entire semester at school. I used it on Viz 4 -and other than a few differences, mainly the sub-object button, the instructions are the same.

Review: Great, Great, Great book. Just the right material for the intermediate to the advanced, with great tips and tricks. I found the format of the book easy to follow and the lessons very intuitive.
I cannot wait for the VIZ 4 book!!

Summary: Invaluable Reference and Learning Tool
Review: Guides the reader through areas of VIZ not covered in other documentation or tutorials. Thorough and well written. Covers "quick sand" areas in lighting, printing problems, textures, importing, and modeling. An invaluable learning tool and reference book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Forget the Tutorials (icluded with Viz)
Review: I learned more in the first chapter of this book than I did by following ALL of the tutorials included with Viz. A great self-teaching guide.

Review: Over the course of the last year I have been teaching myself 3d studio viz. When this book finally shipped I immediately ordered one, and am I glad I did. I find every chapter gives me some tips for modelling in this powerful program that I never would have thought of on my own. Every chapter is well written but be advised that you should have an understanding of viz before working through this book. If your just starting with the software, do the tutorials that ship with the software before moving on to this book. The tutorials are quite good at reinforcing the concepts but assume that you have some viz experience under your belt. A great book - period!
