Summary: Beginning guitar: Fun and Informative
Review: I checked out this book from the library out of curiosity. I figured that anything Hendrix would be impossible for a beginner. I couldn't have been more wrong. This book is a perfect book to start learning with. It teaches theory by demonstrating its use in Jimi's music. It is an excellent starter reference and has plenty of fun exercises to practice. On top of that it in includes a instructional CD so you can hear the ideas described and hear if you are practicing correctly. I have just begun learning how to play and this is my favorite book. For [X] you can learn to jam with Jimi!

Review: Michael Johnson has been playing and performing guitar for 33 years, and teaching guitar for over 20. Some of Michael's students have even gone on to fame and fortune. He has formally played in bands with such recording artists as George Lynch of Dokken and Eric Martin of Mr. Big, and is the winner of various guitar contests and music awards including two time winner of KISW "Best Guitarist In Seattle." His training is both formal and informal, ranging anywhere from rock to classical and is skilled on a variety of instruments including the guitar, bass, French horn, keyboards, and harmonica. He has also produced various guitar content for radio and television.
Michael's real passion is in rock/ blues guitar, teaching, and modern technology. He has been instrumental in the development of the Experience Hendrix- Guitar School website, sponsored by the family of Jimi Hendrix. He is also the Musicians Forum http://forums.msn.com/guitar/ manager for the Microsoft Network (MSN) and a content provider for the Microsoft Internet guitar show E String. His goal is in presenting the guitar student a whole new experience of learning the guitar and the music of Jimi Hendrix, taking full advantage of the ever evolving technology of computers and the Internet. Summary: Learn guitar basics while learning Jimi Hendrix's music!
Review: The first music book to utilize the Internet to publish portions of the book, adding additional exercises, teacher support and interactive music.
The contents of this book are based on interviews with Al Hendrix (Jimi's dad) on Jimi's learning experience in addition to rare pictures! An audio CD (included) with actual Hendrix song clips are provided to practice too.

Review: This is a great book for beginners (4.5*). While it will not teach you everying, it covers most of the basics(although the minor pentatonic scale box is conspicuously absent) and surprisingly concisely. It is very attractively formated and includes a useful CD. By focusing on the music of well known Jimi Hendrix tracks the beginner can feel real meaningful progress from the start. There is also a good website associated with this book. I wish I had this book when I first started! This book alone is a good starting point and should provide inspiration -- I would also recommend David Meads excellent beginners guide to accompany this and fill in the gaps. By the way there is a more advanced Jimi Hendrix follow on to this book by the same author but I think it comes as a 2 video set possibly with a book attached -- I have not tried that (yet) so I cannot comment on its value.]

Summary: Very, very cool...
Review: What a fun way to learn rock guitar via a superstar like Hendrix. As a teacher I found the book easy to understand and enjoyable to students who want to rock like Hendrix (who doesn't?). It introduces the right beginner chords, scales, and has a great accompanying CD.

Review: You start learning Hendrix songs after 5 minutes in the book. It has a very helpful cd, that allows you to hear what it's supposed to sound like and give detailed instructions on how to play it. The songs include Purple Haze, the Banner, Third Stone from the Sun and some more.
