Rating: Summary: Lexie, SurvivorUpdates.com Review: "ChillOne's pursuit to uncover the secrets of the Amazon season opened up a new perspective on the "spoiling" of the Survivor series. His compelling accounts of his experience in the Amazon captivated readers, caused a stir throughout the Survivor community websites, and made a powerful impact on the "spoiling" world of Survivor. If you love the CBS Survivor series, you're going to love this book!"
Rating: Summary: All this hype for a spoiler that didnt hold water Review: As a former poster at Survivor Sucks, I advise you to NOT buy this book. The chillone spoiler was hyped up because it correctly spoiled the final two. In spite of this, it failed in properly spoiling the boot order for the season which was its objective. It predicted Christy in the final four: WRONG. It predicted Butch in the final three: WRONG. It was wrong on other accounts as well. In addition, Amazon was a terrible season. Even if this semi-spoiler does impress you, reliving anything having to do with Amazon will be like getting teeth drilled without novacaine. This painstalkingly boring season isn't worth reading about, even if it deals with a "revolutionary" spoiler. Besides, chillone wasn't the only one to spoil the final two, gambling sites did as well. Ask yourself, should I buy a book with over a hundred pages written about a message board and some arrogant guy who thinks he's god? I think you'll find the answer.

Rating: Summary: The Spoiler Review: I read ChillOne's book a few times because I wanted to evaluate it by different standards each time to see if what I thought initially would be true. On first read, I was engrossed by the story. I liked the way the author told the story from the perspective that he was on an unwilling mission. While he did not go to the Amazon specifically to find out as much as he possibly could about who was on the cast, or the boot order, it became his mission on behalf of spoilers everywhere when he realized the importance of the opportunity he had been afforded. I felt that the opening chapters were by far the most interesting. ChillOne detailed how his trip to Rio came about and how he decided to visit the Ariau Towers on a whim when he realized that he had some extra time in Brazil. The way he exercised immense control and precision when talking to Enrique and the infamous boat driver is absolutely fascinating as he kept his cool when privy to such valuable information. The book moves at an incredible pace as we learn the hurdles the writer faced when dealing with a stringent as attempting to spoil a major television show. We learn about how the trip came about and every technique that was employed by the author in order to leave with as much information as possible. Even though he couldn't actually see where the camp sites were because they were located deep in the jungle, ChillOne still made an attempt to see where they landed. Really, he is detailing the spoiler's wet dream. He was at the site right after filming had finished and so for the people who try and figure out who is going each week, this was a way to erase any doubt about the legitimacy of the what he was able to uncover. Although I loved the book because I followed Chill's megapost at SurvivorSucks right from the beginning, it was as a spoiler that I had my biggest issue with it. I found that while the first and last part of the story were particularly interesting (he talks about meeting the Amazon castaways at the end of the book) for me, I found that his concentration on the supporters/skeptics/flamers to be a bit redundant. This is strictly because I knew about the support and criticism ChillOne received, starting with his belief that there was a "Brian" on the cast and that "Daniel" was the game's second victim. However, reading the book as only a fan of the show and not a spoiler, I realize why this had to be included. In that respect, I think that the writer achieves his purpose by not only providing an adequate summary of his findings, but also presenting a reader's digest version of how the spoiling community works. Rumors are posted and are thought of as a hoax first, a lie second, and the truth last. I think that this is what makes the book a prerequisite for anyone interested in finding more about the underbelly of the Survivor community. I think it is fairly obvious to say that I enjoyed the book. ChillOne could not reveal everything he wanted to when he first posted his information, and with "The Spoiler", the reader is finally allowed a deeper insight into how he accomplished everything he did. Some have said that his work changed the entire editing scheme of Survivor Amazon, and I tend to agree. Previous to this, all of the Survivor winners were presented in a positive light. We respected Richard for being the founding father of the game as we know it. Tina showed that a sweet soccer-mom can have vicious manipulating capabilities. Ethan proved that a nice guy can win the game without lying all the time. Vecepia was the first Survivor to come out on top after being on a minority tribe after the merge. For all of Brian's deceptions, everyone had to admit that he was head and shoulders above anyone else on Thailand in terms of strategical play. Jenna, however was depicted as selfish, and while Chill had said that she made the Final 2 very early on, very few people expected her to pull through because she simply did not receive the positive editing that everyone else had up to that point. For that reason alone, one can say that ChillOne changed the way Survivor comes across on TV and why this story is necessary reading. Go get it. You'll be glad you did.
Rating: Summary: Memoirs from a Message Board. Review: I thought THE SPOILER would be a more in depth look at the "controversy" over the posts that The ChillOne posted at SurvivorSucks.com before and during the viewing of Season: Amazon. The first three chapters were rather interesting as they described how The ChillOne happened to discover the information that he would later post on the SurvivorSucks message board. However, other than the last chapter, the book is basically nothing more than a play by play description on what went on at the message board. It's not very interesting reading and one gets the impression by how the author continually refers back to his quest to be inducted to "Monster Island" (from the book I gather it's a place of honor for spoilers at SurvivorSucks.com) that he has a very large ego. There aren't very many people around who would believe that because they happened to spoil some major points of a reality show that they deserve better than the rest of us; I mean I'm all for everybody getting their 15 minutes of fame, but this is a little ridiculous.
THE SPOILER is not a book that many people can read and enjoy or even be amused about. In fact, the book doesn't offer much other than wondering about arrogancy and if one could become as inflated as the author if ever presented in the same situation. I would only recommend this book to really hard core SURVIVOR fans. Other than that, I would stay away, unless maybe your looking for a good laugh.
Rating: Summary: The Spoiler Review: If anyone is a fan of the Reality TV show Survivor, you have to be aware of the great lengths that are taken to keep the outcome of the show a secret. If you are a fan of the show, chances are you may not be aware of the internet culture that has taken roots from this show. This internet culture, the Online Survivor Community (OSC), seems to be hell bent to expose these secrets, to "Spoil" Survivor. ChillOne enters the OSC two weeks before the opening of Survivor Amazon. During a New Year's Vacation ChillOne, avid Survivor fan, happened to stay at the same resort where just days earlier the Survivor Amazon crew finished their production efforts. Taking advantage of a golden opportunity, ChillOne gathered what intelligence he could about the filming of the show from the Locals. Chill's intelligence became a major storm cloud within the OSC during Survivor Amazon. Some even claim ChillOne became the 17th player. The saga of this event is chronicled in "The Spoiler." If you are an avid Survivor Fan and are not aware of ChillOne, you need to take a leap and read this book. You will find details about the better show within the show. Careful, because you may become addicted to the fun if you choose to get involved. If you have heard of ChillOne, you will find the saga of his gathering Intel and reporting it is a great read. It is also very interesting to see his thought processes as he recaps the Survivor Amazon series ...
Rating: Summary: Chill & Ted's Excellent Adventure Review: My father once told me I was so lucky I could fall into a pile of crap and come out smelling like a rose. But I don't hold a candle to ChillOne. And lucky for the rest of us, he knew what to do with the opportunity that fell into his lap. The book is an easy read, concise, has pictures, and would be of interest to anyone who has enjoyed watching survivor or using internet message boards. This is a book written by a guy who stumbled onto the site where Survivor 7, the Amazon, had just finished filming a couple of weeks before. Despite language barriers, he was able to gain enough data to expose many of the events and outcomes of the show a month before it began airing. The book covers 1) the circumstances leading up to being in the right place at the right time, 2) the short time spent in Brazil gathering the intelligence, 3) the online adventure of sharing this sought-after information with thousands of people he didn't know - many of whom thought he was a hoax, and 4) the aftermath, including coming face to face with the Amazon survivors themselves in a Casino in Iowa! Why didn't he enlist the help of the other tourists he was with in Brazil? Why didn't he ignore the negative posters who flamed him mercilessly? Why not post all the info he had in his first post? What indisputable artifact convinced him that the hotel he visited had indeed just hosted the TV crew of the 7th edition of Survivor? What did the survivors do and say when they met him? What did they think of his spoiling? What was the secret PC utilization technique that allowed him to efficiently respond to the many "flames" and questions he received?Seriously... I had a chance to meet ChillOne in Omaha at a Survivor event and can confirm he is a normal guy just like the rest of us. Not a CBS plant, not a fabricator, but someone who got a chance to utilize his special knowledge, interests, experience, and abilities to do something unique. And share it with us in a shiny green book.
Rating: Summary: Good start, but there's not enough for a book here. Review: The story of "The Spoiler" would make some excellent online reading, but unfortunately, there's not even 100 pages of story here. Let me start by saying that I stopped reading spoilers after Season 1, but I glanced at the spoiler boards a couple weeks before Survivor 6 to get an informed pick on my Survivor Draft at the office. There was lots of talk online at the time about a guy that visited the Araiu Towers Hotel, and using his info, I drafted Matt with the 11th pick. When I saw a blurb about the book, I was curious about the story, since I knew a little about it. The first part of the book is pretty interesting. The author writes about his accidental trip to Brazil and stumbled upon the Survivor Amazon location. He talks about the care he used to glean information and his dealings with the hotel staff. Unfortunately, this is where the whole story gets weird. The vast majority of the book is a play-by-play of the SurvivorSucks spoiler board. He writes about his posts, their responses, and his responses to their responses. He gets several conspiracy theorists that are convinced he's a hoax which are humorous to read. But I still can't get past the fact that this is all just the play-by-play of a message thread. As you can imagine, it's not that fascinating. Beyond that, the author seems convinced that he's a super-spy and every decision he makes has grandiose implications. While he did a pretty good job of being the right type of person in the right place at the right time, I'm not sure that anything more than common sense was used to capture the information that he did. But when it comes to the online part of the book, he makes every posting he did sound like he's contemplating the ultimate in posting strategy. There's just not that much intrigue there. The big tension in the book is supposed to involve whether the thread will be locked or end up in "Monster Island", spoiler thread heaven, I suppose. While the interesting part was seeing how his picks did, anyone that watched Survivor 6 knew how accurate the picks were early in the book. But whether the thread would be locked or not was hardly compelling enough for 2/3 of the book. The final chapter left cyberspace and got somewhat interesting again, as ChillOne meets up with the cast at a charity event, and you see their reactions to meeting ChillOne. But really, this book is 30 pages of interesting info and 100 pages of a bunch of people typing on keyboards. Good for an online read or sitting down for an hour in a bookstore, in my opinion. On the other hand, I will say that if you are a member of the spoiler community, noone had more luck with Survivor than this guy, in which case it's probably worth it to have the book for posterity and to support this guy. But then, you probably already know most of the story.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Book - Game within the Game Review: This book is the real deal. Can't believe that I was actually more fascinated by the "game within the game" of on-line spoiling than I was by the tv version of survivor. The real winner of survivor is The Chillone and how he kept his cool and thread alive during the survivor series. OK, he didn't get the EXACT boot order of the first 4 and last 4 but he did spoil (not ruin) the whole series weeks before the game was actually played. Has this ever happened before? Not that I've heard of. But the real story was how he himself survived the absolute vicious attacks from fellow spoilers when he got a couple of the orders reversed in the early going. (Who actually cares if the person is booted off 14th loser versus 15th loser). The important thing is that weeks before the show even aired, he {pointed to} the final 2 winners ... and spoiled the whole show by revealing the final winner. Anyone betting in vegas would be able to retire now thanks to TheChillOne. Well done, ChillOne. It was a great ride.
