Rating: Summary: This book "Kick's Blackjack (...)!" Review: "Frits" thanks a bunch! Finally, a book that made me a few bucks! Had to practice a bit, but I got my (18) units as advertised. Plus, loved that section you put in on playing "Tournaments", I used your strategy and kicked some hiny using it there too! For all those reading this, GET THE BOOK!
Rating: Summary: Betting on Blackjack Review: As do most Blackjack players I have purchased numerous books on the subject; most do cover card counting, therefore I found this particular book to be unique in nature. The author does present a "fresh" approach at playing the game. I had to read the book not once, not twice, but three times to really gain all the knowledge that he places on those pages. It is clear that he has really been a seasoned gambler and knows what the heck he is talking about; I saw myself in many of the cited examples he outlines with regards to behavior patterns that affect our play. I have read some of the reviews of this book posted on this site and it makes me wonder if the reviewers who posted the semi-negative ones really "read" the book! I would classify myself as a semi-pro in the game and have been playing for years and even "I" took so much knowledge from this book that I can't imagine that anyone who has really studied the game didn't appreciate all the "gaming" philosophy the author packs in there besides his hallmark "CLB" betting methods. He stresses over and over again on those pages that this game is a ll about "patience and discipline" and if you don't have it, don't even make the attempt to play! This alone can concretely be demonstrated by watching folks play at ANY table almost every minute of every day. Some of the reveiwers remarked that his methods were like "Martingale", well, that's an obvious indicator that they really didn't read what the author wrote in there! If anything, his main point and strategy is to play so that you "Don't" get into a "Martingale" situation. I've done what the author suggested, read the book more then once, practiced his methods on low limit tables, tried to attain the goals setforth in his methodologies; all I can say is that they work for me! Playing low limit $3 and $5 dollar games, I have made thousands at the tables playing only once or twice a month for 3 - 4 hour sessions. That having been said, I modified his strategy to fit my needs (as he suggested to do in the book, some were a little too aggressive from my point of view and other readers should take note of that!), and I have become seriously comfortable going to play the game anytime I want while really knowing that I have better then a 90% chance of coming out a winner with my personal financial goals met. I also enjoyed his chapter on "Tournament" play and although I don't win all the time, I have won a few of them and am now more conscious of what the odds are of really winning while adapting his "CLB" methods in a limited fashion for the amount of limited hands being played in these types of events. I highly recommend this book to not only newcomers to the game, but also some of the so-called "Pro's" who think they know it all, the author puts in some serious "Nuggets" in there ... even for them! Finally, something NEW on an age-old game, cudos to "Frits" and 4 Stars!
Rating: Summary: think carefully first Review: Being in the Casino business here in Las Vegas, I see folks lose fortunes at Blackjack. This is mostly because of course, they never really understood first, how to play the game intelligently and secondly, never understood basic money management principles. So to my surprise I witnessed a couple of guys at one of my tables in my pit area using a strategy that I'd never seen before and I knew that they weren't counting, because I was counting the "Double Deck" down and they were making some pretty strange bets and "Winning" when the count was totally against them. I inquired as to what they were doing and they indicated that they were using a strategy that they read about in "Betting on Blackjack", evidently a new book on the market. I was so interested, that I purchased the book just to understand what the heck folks might be doing in the future while coming into my establishment. To my amazement, I read, and read, and read some more, I saw a strategy (as the author calls it) that really does make sense. I haven't used it myself, but I have seen it in action on several occasions, and all I can say is this ... get this book if you are determined to play Blackjack! As a matter of fact read it a couple of times, because when I went through it the first time it was information that I'd never seen before, the second time through I really started to grasp the concepts. This book costs the equivalent of one-half the minimum bet in my casino and truthfully is worth a hundred times that amount. Not owning the casino that I work in I can truthfully say that if we start seeing a barrage of folks using the methods outlined in this book, the casinos around here might feel the pinch!
Rating: Summary: think carefully first Review: I bought this book and studied it before playing on the casino of independently audited website, so I knew the game was random and fair. You guessed it, I LOST!! This book is based on the flawed assumption that it is improbable to be dealt 6 losing hands in a row and that what comes before is a predictor of what comes later. This goes against the first law of gambling, and many laws of probability, and is complete nonsense as anyone whose ever played blackjack will know. Unfortunately, 6/7 losing hands in a row is the exact thing that happened to me approximately 2 in 5 sessions, so the profit from the other 3 sessions was gone and my bankroll went steadily down as well. Its interesting to note that a casino owner heartily endorses this book as well...its making him a fortune, thats why!!! There are long losing streaks in blackjack that must be weathered and the author suggests increasing your stake after each loss up 4 times before waiting to double up on the back of a double win...but the cards are cruel, and if your sequence is lose, lose, lose, lose, win, lose, win, lose...your session bankroll is gone with many of his recommended strategies. The problem is that you may not know you are in a bad sequence until its too late and your money is gone. Do yourself a favour, dont waste your money...if you really want to learn a game of skill, play poker instead...blackjack will always get you in the end in my opinion because the casinos have more money than you...its that simple. Its interesting to note that David Sklansky, successful professional gambler and qualified actuary, concentrates on poker. There are plenty of people making hundreds of thousands playing poker, if you were that good at Blackjack, you wouldnt be wasting your time writing books about it and telling the world your secrets, would you? I know I wouldnt....that would be like killing the golden goose because eventually the casinos would shut all the tables if all you had to do was read a book to make a fortune at their expense.
Rating: Summary: Martingale in disguise Review: If you trust this book, you will lose a lot of money. This book uses a modified martingale system. Do a search on martingale, and you will see what it is. There's nothing new here, other than you might lose your money slower, but you'll still lose it over the long run.
Rating: Summary: Count cards or lose money Review: This book presents readers with the ridiculous idea that they can win money with what is basically little more than progression betting. The author starts by complaining about the Martingale system, but then just offers a few more conservative methods of losing money, his main being the CLB betting system. Dunki-Jacobs doesn't seem to understand that unless you are building knowledge of the past cards into your betting strategy, there is no way to overcome a negative expectation. There may be a loose correlation between your losing streak and the probability of winning the next hand, but it is not enough to overcome the odds that are already stacked against you by the house. His simulations are ridiculous and his understanding of math is very limited. If you are going to take the time to read up on blackjack, and especially if you plan on playing the game often, I recommend learning to count cards...
Rating: Summary: Black Jack analysis at its finest! Review: This is a GREAT BOOK! There are books on Blackjack, and then there are GREAT books ... this is one of those. The author really gives you the insight as to what it's REALLY like to have patience and control and how it affects your game and final outcome. His NEW techniques are really easy to learn, and as advertised, you don't have to learn how to count cards. That having been said, the author does go into detail as to why certain deck configurations are NOT conducive to winning, and that a person whom is determined to play against them will definitely be fighting an uphill battle. This book is filled with great real-life stories and really made the entire read fun and enjoyable. The additional chapters on Spanish 21 were great, because of that I'm playing Spanish 21 more than I ever use to ... and winning! And he even mentions using his new betting methodology with the game of Baccarat which I found interesting as well. To date, I've increased my winning trips almost by 50% over what they used to be; the cost of the book is nothing compared to the money you make using his methods. If you are looking for a book that will give you a much better than average chance of coming out on top, then you need to read this book!
Rating: Summary: some reviewers need to reread book Review: Why I diffently think that counting cards is very important aspect of black jack their are indeed other ways of winning a decent amount of money without counting cards. One of the reviewers stated that the author goes on the assumption that you wont lose 6 times in a row? WHAT?! He brings it up pretty consistantly that you can lose 20 times in a row which is even higher than 6 times in a row. Which is why he states that you got to go in with a decent bank role just in case you go through those losing streaks. Jeeze by using this mans system of betting I've made more money than I lose. Plus when I do lose I still leave with my pants on. Some of the reviewers should look at their own character before blaming it on a book or a paticular strategy. The author also states that it is a strategy not a system which meens that the strategys he offers do not work all the time.
