Summary: BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU LOVE MOVIES AND PAINTINGS
Review: Here is one of those rare, intelligent books about films and paintings that is simply a must-read for anyone who wants to sharpen his or her cinematic eye. The book explores the influence that painting has had on film, using specific movie classics to explore this fascinating theme, such as Rohmer's exquisite comedy The Marquise of O, photographed by the great Nestor Almendros. The book is as rich as its subject, with in-depth, scholarly observations that are as fun to read as an adventure novel. But this isn't fiction by any means. It's a revelation of the synthesis, the profound and oftentimes spiritual connection that exists between the members of the family of Art. It's one of those books that once you've finished reading it--even a chapter or two--you feel like saying: I've learned something worth learning. This is not for intellectuals only. I'm only sorry that it's not available, to my knowledge, in a hardcover edition because it's a must, as I said, in any movie lover's library, a book written by someone who knows and loves what she's writing about!
