Rating: Summary: Wake Up People and read this book !!!!!!!! Review: When I first heard Camryn Manheim was coming out with a book Iimmedately thought to myself " I know it's going to be a goodread". Looks like my thoughts didn't decieve me. Camryn Manhiem best known for her role as Ellanor Frutt on The Emmy Award winning show The Practice really does have the talent to write. She not only can make one laugh but also cry at times too. After reading this book I felt like she wasn't just my favorite actress but also a dear friend of mine. She really told some things that were personal and I really admire her for being brave enough to do so. She is a great lady and has many talents. Who knew one of them would be writing.
Rating: Summary: SAY IT LOUD..... Review: .....I'm fat and I'm proud! And Camryn Manheim says so in a most refreshing way. I particularly liked "conversations with my fat," because that's the way it is, you really don't feel like the fat is actually a part of you. It's more like a burden you have to bear because a)you have "big bones," b)you descended from a long line of fat people, and c)food tastes good! So now, after reading this book, I and my fat have teamed up to be....just myself, the way nature intended me to be! I guess you can tell Camryn inspired me! This should be required reading for not only large people, but also all snooty thin people who think we should subsist on carrot and celery sticks until we look like them!
Rating: Summary: Camryn Manheim shows us how to conquer fat prejudice! Review: This book is great! I laughed and cried (sometimes all at once). I could relate to almost everything in this book and thought it was encouraging to all fat women. So much so, I gave it to my 17 year old daughter to read. We need as much positive reinforcement as we can get, in this age of thin.
Rating: Summary: I'm awake now! Review: I loved this book for all of the above named reasons. In addition, I had to laugh out loud when Camryn speaks with her fat and it tells her how she has been using it as an excuse. I'm the same height and weight as Camryn and I always blamed it on my height!!! (Plenty of short fat women seemed to have men, but just try to be 5'10" and fat, and get a guy!) Too funny! Her honesty was fantastic. Finally, someone telling it like it is. I often wonder at how hard our parents work to get us to lose weight. Is it because of how they think others treat fat people, or how they know THEY treat fat people? I don't think my mother has ever gotten over my being fat. I'll pass on the book and see if it helps her. If not, that's ok. I'm wide awake and I feel fine.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT Review: I think the world resolves around being skinny and beutiful. You see it in the commercials, and every where you go. So WAKE UP AMERICA! S SO WHAT IF WERE FAT? THis book is VERY inspiring.
Rating: Summary: Camryn worked HARD to get where she is today Review: I loved Camryn Manheim's book because it shows how hard she worked to make it as an actress. As we all know, there aren't that many roles for fat women---maybe Camryn's popularity will change that. Imagine - young girls wanting to be big like Camryn! I wish that there was a Camryn when I was growing up... I especially liked the beginning of the book, when she was first learning that she was born to act. It's wonderful that she found her calling early in life. And now look where she is!
Rating: Summary: Wake up, she can write!!! Review: Here we have another talented, beautiful, sexy, honest, and yes FAT woman taking center stage and making all us fat girls proud! Hey, even if your dimensions are on the smaller side, this is a great read! Manheim is changing the face of acting and changing the minds of the ignorant! Bravo, Camryn!!!
Rating: Summary: Extraordinary book by an extraordinary woman! Review: Camryn Manheim writes about life -- all of it! Not just the "pretty" fluff, or the "socially acceptable" garbage, or the "safe" stuff, but absolutely everything! Warts, fat, and all!Her honesty is so completely refreshing; I wish I had the self-confidence it takes to make my life an open book as she does! I just got the book today, and finished reading it in about four hours. I couldn't put it down! You don't have to be fat to read this book and get something (or perhaps everything) from it. I have been, or felt like, an outcast my entire life. Everyone has their own torch to carry, their own "fat," and their own cause for which to fight. As Camryn wrote, "there are plenty of torches to go around." I have been fighting a medical stigma for nearly three years, and had been doing a darn good job of it, but lately it has become very difficult and I have found myself on the verge of giving up. Camryn has given me the impetus to keep fighting. My torch may have flickered, but now I will not let it go out! Thank you Camryn! For having the courage to write such an open, revealing, absolutely inspiring book! Thank you for caring enough about yourself and others to fight for your freedom and peace of mind, and for encouraging others to do the same. By the way, that garland wreath of flowers looks darn good on you. You are a true hippie, rebel, and hero all in one! You go, girl!
Rating: Summary: WAKE UP, I'M AN AMERICAN WOMAN. PERIOD! Review: Camryn focuses on what it's like to be fat in a world where thin is the embodyment of all that is beautiful. She shows us that while how others see us can be defeating the way we see ourselves is really the issue. This book is relevant for any woman who comes up against the beauty myth and finds herself wanting (uhhh... 99% of the population)- regardless of whether it's because she's fat, or because she isn't willing to squeeze herself into that stale barbie doll mold just to get the approval of society. Thanks Camryn!
Rating: Summary: BUY THIS BOOK!!! Review: For any woman who has fretted going to the beach for a weekend of "fun" because you are afraid of the...dum dum dum...bathing suit, this book shares many of your frights as weel as hopes. Buy this book, read it, feel better about yourself, and write to the Gap. Camryn is a gem among women.
