Summary: It made me comfortable to be me.
Review: Reading this book made me know that I wasn't alone in my obesity. I strongly reccomend that people of all sizes buy this book, so that they can know the hardships we face.

Summary: Laughing through my tears
Review: My story is similar to Manheim's: an average-weight child, I suddenly turned Rubenesque at puberty, and from then on my entire experience of life was affected by my weight. Although I'm in a less appearance-intensive job than hers, my career suffered from the stereotyping of fat people as lazy, undisciplined, and self-indulgent, so I tried for years to starve myself down to a socially acceptable shape (and just gained more weight instead!). I admired Manheim's guts, and her ability to transform painful personal experiences into hilarious stories. I was also impressed by her balance: although she faults her parents for their well-meaning but cruel attempts to get her to slim down, she credits them for giving her the self-confidence and the activist ethics that have enabled her to succeed in her career in spite of all odds. The book is a fun, easy read, but us fat girls will often find ourselves laughing through our tears. Enthusiastically recommended!

Summary: From Europe with love
Review: Hi, Camryn's TV series "The Practice" has recently started to be shown on French TV (well, I'm Swiss). So she's quite unknown in France & French-speaking countries for now. But not for long I think ! I read her book as a curvy girl reading the story of another curvy girl; what I liked about it is that she seems to never lose her sense of humour whatever happens & there's no happy ending like "I finally found a boyfriend after all this struggle ! Hurrah ! " She just tells her story and that's it, but with so much humour, I really had hysterics at some point ("Hi, I would like to book tickets for "I woke up & I was fat"). Long live curvy girls!

Summary: Going Against Normal Standards
Review: Before seeing you on a talk show, I had no idea who you were. Your book is great and very motivational. I have recommended it to many. I am currently a student and in the process of writing a research paper about your book. You have gone against the normal standards. Hats off to you.

Summary: I laughed, I cried, and then I laughed some more...
Review: I loved this book. Camryn is a wonderful writer and she spoke for me, and hopefully most of us fat girls. I could really relate to the rejection of her family and society as a whole. I am so happy that she has reached the fame she has. The book made me want to yell WAKE UP WORLD! WE ARE FAT, AND WERE GONNA TAKE OVER THE WORLD!

Summary: Poignant, heartbreaking and funny
Review: Ms. Manyheim never loses the reader for a minute. She is able to relate even her saddest moments with truth and humor. Life is what you make it, and Camryn made it HER way. Hooray for her!

Summary: This girl can do it all
Review: I'm 17 yrs old. I don't know what exactly possessed me to buy Camryn's book, but what ever it was, I sure am thankful. Her book has not only inspired me, it's changed my life. I didn't even know who she was until she won her Emmy. Since then, I've been hooked. She is an amazing woman that is everything I could ever hope to be. I love ya girl!!!!

Summary: I loved this book!!!
Review: I loved this book. I wish her publisher had let her keep going, becuase I would have loved to read more! I hope there is a second book!! I would also love to adapt her boyfriend application for my own personal use -- I think it could save a lot of time and heartache in the long run!

Summary: pretty good but bitter
Review: I enjoyed the book for the most part. It seems as though there is still a good deal of pain she carries around with her. As far as books that make you feel better about not fitting in to the world's prescribed beauty standards, it is not nearly as good as the Mass Market Woman.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I couldn't put it down!
Review: Ms. Manheim has a fun, easy to read writing style. Her words simply flow and her message is clear. This powerful book even added to my own self-confidence. Way to go Ms. Manheim! I'm certainly looking forward to her next book.
