Summary: Smart, Sassy and you gotta love her.
Review: She's funny, bold, and very opinionated. She tells it like it is and I love it. I gave my copy away to a friend of mine with the same kind of personality as Camryn and now I want a copy for myself.

Summary: Better than I had expected.....
Review: I'd had an initial interest in reading this book because I can relate to Camryn Manheim, but it turned out to be funnier and more inspiring than I had hoped. She has the greatest attitude. Its not often I come across someone who encourages me to want to kick the world's [split rear bodypart], but she did. Camryn didn't let the bad things in life drag her down, and that is a difficult feat.
I know this is supposed to be a good read for both the skinnies and the fats, but personally I think the fat girls are gonna relate and understand where she's coming from a whole lot more. But I still give it an enthusiastic recommendation.

Summary: A Delicious Book !
Review: One of the most moving books I have read in a long time. It is written with humor openness honesty and wit, by a very sensitive clever woman, who truly understand what it is like to be fat in our society, and also understand her soul and needs and found a way to make peace with it all in an admirable way.

Summary: Tells it like it is
Review: What is great about this book is that while Manheim shares the sad truth about her fatness, she also tells it in such a funny way that you can appreciate what she's saying, as well as realize there are so many problems in today's society.

No matter if you are a size 2 or a size 22, this book is well worth the read. She is such a good storyteller, that you will enjoy it very much. It makes a great bookclub book because there are so many topics to discuss. And even if you aren't all into the fat-acceptance (which really you should be, because we are all equal) the book is worth it for her crazy stories!

Summary: enjoyable even if you're not overweight
Review: (...) Well I'm not fat, I'm not a women, and I've never seen her act. But I read the book and it's extremely well written. The writing is simply excellent. I highly recommend it (...) her writing ability is wonderful. Plus she has a good story to tell and a very unique point of view. I just loved the delivery and I look forward to reading more from her.

Summary: Changed My Life
Review: I'm an 18 year old who has been struggling with bulimia since I was thirteen. When I was 16 I read this book - and my life has never been the same since. I'd never considered that I was actually allowed to be fat - it never even crossed my mind that it didn't mean that I was a lazy, stupid, unnattractive, slovenly person. I just inherently believed it due to my environment. This book was my first introduction into the Fat Acceptance world, and I've been high on it ever since!
Camryn's stories are ones that any fat girl, or anyone who ever perceived themselves as fat, can easily relate to. I screamed with delight to find that somebody else laid on their stomach to hide their fat, dealt with the small, cruel hints of parents, and generally felt as I did.
As wonderful, as life-changing as the book was, I found that her humor was sort of wry, ironic, sarcastic, and a little sad. In the end I wasn't left feeling good about me, but I was feeling empowered. I don't think the reader finishes this book with the feeling that they can look in the mirror with delight, but you are left with a profound awareness of a terrible injustice, of a sickness in society, a sickness which is not ours. But it sort of felt like being part of a very persecuted minority - take pride in what you are, but it sure would be nice to be something else.
It would also have been nice if she had included some health facts (like in Fat!So? by Marilyn Wann.) It would be more swaying to the reader to have some medical backup dispelling the myth of Fat=Death, and perhaps some advisory that you should excercise and eat your fruits and veges (as much as you want, when you want, whatever you want), but never for the purpose of losing weight since fat has no effect on your health.
Overall, however, I found it moving, heart-wrenching, earth-shaking, and so very, very true.

Summary: Empowering honesty
Review: Thanks so much to Camryn for her story. I laughed and cried so much while reading this book. Her stories are real life (somewhat embellished, she admits) insights on the prejudice fat women and men experience everyday. It is refreshing to see her words in print. I could relate to all of her experiences with her parents and "friends". Congrats on the birth of her son.

Summary: Laugh and cry and not know why
Review: This book is very funny and bittersweet. I found myself unable to put it down. Sometimes I was laughing and crying at the same time because I was so able to relate to some of the stories that Camryn describes. I felt that some of the words in this book are thoughts and feelings I myself have said...it was as if reading my own diary at times.

This book is good for women who struggle with accepting their body image, but it's also good for people who want an insight into the lives of people struggling with weight and body image. Sometimes it takes just a little understanding to have compassion for someone instead of judging them.

Summary: I'm Awake!
Review: Camryn Manheim, aside from being one of the funniest and most talented actresses of the day, is also a gifted writer. I read this book on recommendation, and it exceeded all my expectations. I could barely finish a chapter without thinking, "I can relate!" "That's happened to me so many times!" Her despcriptions of growing up in an environment that discouraged her because of her weight, of the Renaissance Faire (which I enjoy more than Christmas!!,) or going to college and studying the arts, are all things that so many young women of today can relate to. She has, in a way, become a role model for me, and I admire her so much. So read this book and see for yourself!!

Summary: Read Up, This Book is Great!
Review: Like some of the other reviewers, this book is not (thankfully) what I thought it would be - some long-winded gossipy tale re: how Mannheim became a starlet. Instead, it focuses on self-love and self-acceptance. The author happily decided not to risk everything on losing weight - she almost died doing that once, with drugs. Instead, at some point, she told everyone, this is who she is, and that's that. What amazed me is that she had the cajones to do this in Hollywood - where everyone tries to be a size 3 (or is it a 1?!) and that she was able to, and was recognized for her talent, on top of everything else. She is truly a role model for larger women (and men) everywhere, as she is for the rest of us who don't meet some stupid cultural stereotype. God bless her - and a big Congrats on that cute new baby boy of hers! She shows us that large people CAN have it all.
