Rating: Summary: This book helped me become the healer I am. Review: I love this book. It's about being who you are. And as such, it applies to anybody who has ever faced the question of just who they are and who they could be. I am a Two-Spirit Shaman and an international author (Chi Gung by L.V. Carnie)and I know that when I was faced with facing myself, my skills at energy healing multiplied so substantially that I have literally found myself in numerous life-and-death healing situations with animals and other people and because I faced who I was, just as Carmyn has faced who she is, I was able to make a difference when life was on the line. By reading books like this, you can learn to accept yourself through learning to see how someone else has done it. This is a beautiful book about a very special person and while she may or may not see herself as a healer, I say that she is because her book can truly help you to live your dreams and to make a difference in the world.
Rating: Summary: Like the author, Wake Up, I'm Fat! is a knockout. Review: As one of the lucky few who has had the privilege of reading an advanced copy of Ms. Manheim's memoir I enthusiastically join the reviewers at Entertainment Weekly and Publishers' Weekly in raving about this book. While most of her fans know her as the buttoned-down and often humorless Ellenor Frutt from ABC's The Practice, Manheim is in fact a free-spirited motorcycle-ridin' mama with a razor wit. In this biography, Camryn lets us jump on the back of her Honda CB650 and ride along, feeling what it's like to be fat in America and in the acting community. Given her experience, she has every right to be bitter and angry... but through it all she has maintained her sense of humor and sense of self. Not only is this book a great read, it is a text for living right and loving yourself. If anyone you know has been down on themselves, do them a favor and buy them this book. It will change their lives. Manheim is a national treasure and her memoir is pure gold.
Rating: Summary: A memoir that says it all, and then some! Review: Camryn Manheim may very well be the coolest person on the planet. She definitely has written not only one of the best books of the year in "Wake Up, I'm Fat," but definitely one of the coolest. It's a breezy, candid, unpretentious examination of a life lived fully and, eventually, triumphantly. And whether you yourself are large or just live your own life that way, by the time you finish reading Camryn's book, you'll want her to be your new best friend. I can't wait for the sequel.
Rating: Summary: Her will to be strong in a weak society makes her a mentor. Review: I could truly grasp and understand the trials that she has gone through. I read her article in the May 8-14 edition of TV Guide. She is a very unique person. Her feelings and words really gripped my heart. I could feel the pain that she has been through. I have been there myself, and are still there. I really think she is a great model and mentor for the close-minded people in our society.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful book by a strong, intelligent, beautiful woman Review: After reading the past reviews, I wonder if I'm the only man who read this book. The first thing that caught my eyes, I'll be honest, was the cover picture. Camryn is a gorgeous woman with very nice legs. She is also a person of deep character, who has persevered and triumphed despite the prejudices of our shallow society. She relates her struggles in a moving way, but avoids the whining, "why is the world so unfair?" tone that unfortunately characterizes some similiar works. If you want a glimpse into the mind of a powerful, beautiful and intoxicatingly magnificent woman, then you will enjoy this book.
Rating: Summary: You don't have to be fat to get something out of this book! Review: When I first saw this book, it caught my eye. I thought the cover photo of Camryn was absolutely beautiful. Although I'm not fat, this book in part inspired me to accept myself and to not allow my insecurities to get the better of me. Remember, you don't have to be fat to get something out of this book!
Rating: Summary: Smart, Sassy and you gotta love her. Review: She's funny, bold, and very opinionated. She tells it like it is and I love it. I gave my copy away to a friend of mine with the same kind of personality as Camryn and now I want a copy for myself.
