Rating: Summary: Manheim inspires to tell your inner demons," Get Lost!" Review: I loved this book. I started reading it at one in the morning on a Saturday night and I was finished within twenty-four hours. It is such an enjoyable read, and it grabs you on so many levels. I opened my heart up to this woman as I felt her pain, her joy, and her exasperation. She really does find a channel through which to speak to all of us. It doesn't matter whether you're fat or thin, if there was ever a time when you felt judged or unaccepted, you will understand Camryn Manheim, and she will uplift you. By the time I finished the book, I felt liberated and ready to take on the world. That is her greatest triumph in writing this, that not only does she embrace the reader, but encourages the pursuit of honesty and love of oneself. She can inspire us all to greatness.
Rating: Summary: Wake Up and Read the Book! Review: Camryn Manheim doesn't claim to be perfect, just honest; anyone who's ever tried real honesty knows it's a tall order, but this author achieves it. Everyone's entitled to an opinion, but the writers of the negative reviews seem not to have read the book. Manheim isn't discriminating against anyone; that's the whole point of the book! As for her attitude, excuse me, but what did you expect from a book whose title begins "Wake Up!"
Rating: Summary: This book is wonderful! Review: Camryn Manheim is not only a talented actress, but she's also a great writer. She has a razor-sharp wit that will have you laughing out loud but she will make you feel her pain as well. Reading this book makes you feel as though she's sitting right next to you. She opens her heart and allows you to see her as a person and not just an actress. Camryn's message applies to all of us not just the "big girls". I admire her strength and courage.
Rating: Summary: Camryn opens her heart and soul for all to know Review: This book inspired me to take stock of myself and learn to accept my shortcomings and that they are not shortcomings at all. Hats off to Camryn Mannheim!!
Rating: Summary: Will put therapists out of business! Review: I am a practicing therapist, and if everyone reads this book and REALLY gets the message, I'll get a long vacation. It's not just about being fat or not being fat. It's about finding value in yourself as a human being, no matter what shape your body happens to be. It's not the size of your waistline, but the size of your soul that truly counts. Whether one is fat or thin or short or tall, it's the self hatred that needs to stop. Even if someone wants to lose weight (or change anything about themselves), that can only happen when one stops reviling oneself and does it as a choice, not as a duty to society - or out of guilt and self criticism. This book will help you to stop hating yourself, no matter what your mother, father, sister, brother, husband, wife, or culture has taught you. In every one of us is a shining star. Camryn Manheim is leading the way to our recognizing that. Thank you, Camryn. I don't even mind losing the business. (P.S. The book is beautifully written and fun to read, to boot.)
Rating: Summary: Good read, but I am jealous Review: Y'know, I spent most of my life saying the same things with regard to size acceptance, and people would laugh at those ideas. People just can't get around the idea that not all fat people sit around eating cream puffs all day. Hopefully now that some celebrity is advocating size-acceptance, perhaps some of that will rub off on the ordinary folks who don't have tv shows and make millions :)I applaud Camryn Manheim for her wit, honesty and humor. It's about time people spoke up about size acceptance, so kudos to you!
Rating: Summary: Thank god, it's about time! Review: The negative reviews are obviously people that are narrow minded and have never experienced the pain of obesity. This book was absolutely amazing! Camyrn wrote down everything I have ever felt, good and bad. I want my friends and family to read it to obtain a better understanding of what I go through everyday and how they can really help. I thank Camryn for writing this book, it's long over due and very much needed. If you are related to, are, or are friends with a heavy person - READ THIS BOOK! It gives you a whole new prospective!
Rating: Summary: Great Book by a Great Actress/Playwright and Now Author Review: This is a great book by a woman who is confident, funny, real and human. Contrary to what some people may think, Ms. Manheim does not whine or advocate becoming a Big Beautiful Woman. She just happens to be one and makes other women feel good about themselves in the process. It is precisely this attitude that makes this book long overdue. This is a book that thousands, if not more, can relate to. The whole purpose of this book is to bring the issues of being non-perfect in a society that so many people seem to feel that everyone should be perfect, to the fore and she does a wonderful job. I for one admire the courage and confidence she exhibits in writing this book. She tells it like it is in a real, sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking way. Ms. Manheim's book is a MUST for ANYONE who has ever been made to feel "not perfect". I suspect that there are more people out there than not who fall into that category. Let your fingers fly over the keyboard to order this book, you will not be sorry.
Rating: Summary: An inspirational journey toward self-acceptance. Review: Camryn Manheim is that rare celebrity who isn't afraid to speak her mind, who isn't afraid to be who she is. After reading this book, I found that I was inspired by the blood, sweat and tears it took for this actress to get where she is today. She's living proof that if you put your mind to something, you can accomplish it. Never say never. Anyone can relate to this book, too. It's not just for people who've struggled with weight problems. It's for anyone who's ever been told 'no,' when deep down inside, they knew the answer was 'yes.' And hey, don't let the title fool you. This is not a diet book! In fact, it's so rich with anecdotes -- happy and sad, triumphs and failures -- you'll want to devour it immediately. If you're like me, you'll read it once, then read it again.
Rating: Summary: This book is not only "for all the fat girls!" Review: I agree with one of Camryn's critics quoted in the book: "Wake up everybody; she's talented, so who cares if she's fat." If you're fat, read this book. If you're not fat, read this book. Then go buy copies for everyone you know. Honest, heart wrenching but most of all, inspiring. Camryn definitely achieved her goal: "this book has been about self-acceptance" (page 280). Because of people like Camryn, the question "who is your hero?" is getting easy to answer.
