Rating: Summary: Doc Review: I never thought that I would need to write a negative review - that is, until now. If you are looking to add to your repertoire of techniques - don't make the same mistake I did in buying this book. The techniques offered in this book have very little (if any) good information to offer - there are plenty of instances of this throughout the book. As one example, the section on "Vibrato", provides no tips, no exercises, in fact - no description of what good vibrato is or how it is done. Another example, the section on "Growl", has content so thin that it leaves the reader "out in the cold". The author offers only one (of several) techniques for growling, but that description is 'inadequate at best' for the production of growl. I could go on (check out the section on "glissando"), but let me just say that the author and publisher are doing a disservice to sax students with this book. We should expect that any decent music "how-to" book should include good descriptions (with illustrations), tips (and/or warnings), and exercises - perhaps even recorded examples. Sorry - this book doesn't measure up. - Frank

Rating: Summary: Hot Rock Sax Review Review: I was suggested to get this book by Greg Piccolo. I saw Greg in Rhode Island and asked him about flutter tounging and growling sax effects. He told me about this book by his friend Tim Price and how great it was and how it helped his playing. He was so sincere about it that i went out the next day and picked it up. This book is a gold mine of Rock and R&B sax ideas. Without question it is worth every penny and a big help. I think if i didnt have this book, my playing would really suffer. It is so focused and easy to understand. Every sax player interested in Rock and Blues should have it.

Rating: Summary: Doc Review: I've been using this book, with many others, for about a year. As a beginner, I have found it to be very helpful. For example, the section on reeds was the first intelligible piece on the subject that I found. You won't find everything here, and the book is not for advanced students. If you are a beginner like me, however, I think you will find it as useful as, say, Larry Teal or John Laughter. The book is more useful if you use it alongside Tim's etudes and articles found on www.....com.
Rating: Summary: Hot Rock Sax Rocks Review: The best rock sax text out there.Nothing touches this.
I heard Tim in New Orleans tearing up the sax in the French Quarter. This guy is a flame thrower player. He belongs with any big name rock band. Fierce tells it all.
I had to ask him, how can I get this rock chops going? He told me about the book, as well as wrote out things for me to play while he was on break.
This dude is class and plays and writes the best.
Get this book and start understanding the underworld of rock sax.
