Rating: Summary: The best Aunt! Review: 25 years ago I used to read this book over & over & over to my baby sister. After I had kids of my own we used to talk about how much we loved this book. She has searched for it over the years even though we could only remember clever bits from it. A little while ago she found it! I'm ordering a copy for myself and both my grandchildren. She is the best Aunt in the Universe! Thanks

Rating: Summary: What a relief..... Review: About 25 years ago, I had a copy of this book. I remember reading and re-reading it for hours on end, mesmerized by the drawings and the round-and-round stories. I remember all the stories and poems being short enough that I could read them in a minute or two, but could ponder them for days. It was a fantastic experience for me at seven years old, and I can honestly say this was the most memorable book I ever owned. I still remember the pictures and writings in "Arm In Arm" like yesterday even though I have forgotten about some of the books I still have.I lost my copy 25 years ago, and at least once a week since then, the "dark and stormy night" story will pop into my head with the image of the ships going round and round in a circle, getting smaller and smaller as the story kept going round and round without end. I remember thinking that if I just had a magnifying glass strong enough, I could keep reading the story forever!! It was that kind of wonder that made this book so memorable and treasured. I have kept telling myself that I was going to research the book and find it and get a copy, but never took the time. No disrespect to Mr. Charlip, but over the years I had forgotten the title and author, so I thought my chances of finding it were slim. Finally, today, I spend about 15 minutes on the Internet and found it. I am looking forward to getting my new copy and reading it with my three children (7, 5 and 2 years old). I can't wait to share this magnificent work of literary art with them. It is truly timeless. Thank you, Remy.

Rating: Summary: Memorable as a child, a favorite gift as an adult Review: Arm in Arm has followed me throughout my life by way of meeting others who have read and fondly remember it from childhood. I have never forgotten this book and have given it to many of my good friends with children. It has delightful illustrations and rhymes that not only inspire wonder and imagination, but also seem to play with you as if the book itself is somehow alive and pulling your leg. Remy Charlip has a masterful way of holding a child's interest, not to mention an adult's, with his play on words, memorable rhymes and storytelling, as well as his playful use of color and unique illustration style. Thank you Remy for many fond memories of this book and on behalf of many of my friends, thank you for giving them a moment of peace while their children escape with Arm in Arm.
Rating: Summary: elementary school revisited Review: Arm in Arm was my sister's and my favorite book in elementary school. We took turns taking it out every week at our school library. I tried to find the book to purchase a few years ago to no avail. I considered going back to the elementary school to see if I could buy the original from them. Before I did, however, I checked amazon.com and voila! A mamba, zany book with underlying creative genius.
Rating: Summary: What a thrill to find this book again! Review: As a child some 30 years ago I used to borrow this book from the library again and again. In my late teens I thought it would be a kick to look up that most favorite childhood book, only to find it available no more. But now I can buy it! I still remember so many of those goofy, beautifully illustrated mind twisters, but I'm really going to love seeing the ones that time has long hidden from my memory. This book is a nostalgic treasure that has definitely stood the test of time, I've no doubt it continues to enthrall young people today. And I'm very pleased for Remy Charlip, in finding in these reviews that SO MANY of us remember this book from 20-30 years ago, went out of our way to track it down, and continue to share this book with future generations!
Rating: Summary: A true literary gift for all ages Review: As an impressionable youth in the mid-'70s who had just learned to read, this book welcomed me into the world of our illogical, sometimes abstract language -- and instead of confusing me, it filled me with a yearning for more exploration into this thing called English. Now that I'm older and a copy editor at a newspaper, where I work with words all the time, I see this book as the catalyst for what I eventally became in life and I'm grateful it's available once again for everyone to enjoy. In this age of entertainment that's prepackaged and lacking in imagination, it's good to know that a book like "Arm in Arm" can still manage to inspire -- I always saw something new every time I read it, and I still do. I recommend this book wholeheartedly, as it provokes real thought about what makes the words we speak so fascinating and, as the book illustrates, never one-sided. Thank you, Mr. Charlip, for giving me and the world this gift.
Rating: Summary: One of the best children's books I have ever read. Review: Everyone should have a book that lingers from their childhood, echoing through their life. For me, this book is Arm in Arm by Remy Charlip. I have often thought of the clever rhymes, pictures, and ideas that flow throughout the book. For children who are imaginative, creative, and curious, there could be no better gift. If you want to spur a love of poetry and literature in a young one, give them this book. If you want to amuse yourself, buy it for yourself. Make sure, however, that you keep it in a safe place; it's the sort of book you'll want to read over and over again!
Rating: Summary: Fun Book! Review: Full of fun poetry and nonsense ryhmes. Great to have sitting out on your coffee table or desk!
