Summary: If you read only one book this year, this should be the one.
Review: If you've got a social conscience, congratulations. If not, buy (and read) this book; it may very well help you develop one.

Summary: We need more brave authors like Jim Hightower.
Review: In less than 280 pages Mr. Hightower has given us a quick lesson on how the common folk are being ripped off and what we as citizens can do to take back our country from these 20th century robber barons. He exposes the right for what it is and their followers in the business and religious communities.

Summary: Absolutely brilliant!
Review: It has been a long time since a book has made me both want to laugh and cry at the same time. Hightowers wit is evident throughout the book and his on-target analysis of what is wrong with Corporate America really hits the nail on the head. He truly tells it like it is. I agree with another reviewer who said that Hightowers book should be required reading in every school. I will go one step further! It should be required reading by EVERYONE! It will make people want to scream bloody murder at the way Corporate bigwigs and greedy politicians are working together to screw over the common folk. This book will make you want to kiss some ass. (Pardon my French.)

Summary: Enjoyed the book very much
Review: Jim Hightower hits smack dab in the center of the target and tells it like it oughta be told. Very informative and extremely interesting and funny. Jim speaks my ole country boy language and I loved the book.

Summary: Amazing and thought provoking!!!
Review: Jim Hightower is just AMAZING. YOu must read this book. Jim talks about the environment, about the wage gap, about corporizations taking over schools and even about the conspiracies the parking meter people have schemed up to take away our money. I have learned more from Hightower than i ever have in any government class i've ever taken. Learn WHY our government isn't always the greatest. Jim includes quotes, examples, and jokes. He uses real life stories. Best of all, Hightower is [DARN] funny!!! YOu won't find an eyeopening book about politics anywhere else that is this funny (though Carl Hiaasen comes close). Enjoy!!!

Summary: What's Going On
Review: Jim Hightower is one of the best political observers out there, willing to tell it like it is without concern for whom he may offend (something which cost him his job at ABC, when he *gasp* thought Disney was than perfect.) Hightower not only speaks truth, but he utilizes humor to maximum effect - this is as funny as a Dave Barry book, but a heckuva lot more insightful. Jim covers a wide range of topics, from the church to organchlorides, finance reform to fair trade. Hightower debunks common myths and exposes the true situation, ugly as it may sometimes be. I tend to get books from the library but the title and Hightower's radio commentaries so intrigued me that I went out on bought this - I was certainly not disappointed. One of the finest political books of the decade.

Summary: Comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable.
Review: Jim Hightower is to Texas what Michael Moore is to Michigan. He and Molly (Ivins) are the clear voices of informed and brash liberalism in this predominantly Conservative state.

A state I hope we recover from soon.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Liberalism is not dead!
Review: Jim Hightower manages to infuriate as he entertains. Not an easy feat! From television networks to clorine in the environment Hightower shows how the big business interests control the flow of news and how we react to it. A must read for the liberals "left" in the country.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Tells it like it is!!
Review: Jim Hightower minces no words in this book. If you want to know the truth on what is happening to this country because of the corporate take-over, here it is. Jim spells it out loud and clear. You can't read this book and stay on the sidelines while our country goes to heck!

Summary: Texas Populist Skewers Power Elite
Review: Jim Morrison once said that no one here gets our alive. For Jim Hightower, former Texas Agriculture Commissioner, no one--corporate CEO, pompous congressman, puffed up bureaucrat, gets away with incompetence, ridiculousness or downright silliness that passes for policy decisions.

Hightower combines down-home folk ways with a witty and perceptive wisdom that we so desparately need to understand what the rulers are doing to the people that passes for beneficial and democratic governance.

It is interesting to note that of all the power brokers, lobbyists, corporate CEOs, scam artists and flim-flam men exposed by Hightower, not one has ever engaged in a rejoinder against him. Could it be that he is right in not just exposing them, but that what Hightower speaks is the truth.

While Hightower has no one specific target, the book is neatly divided into such appealling sections as "corporateworld", the "media," "class war and "pollution."

Read "Armadillos" treasure its message and use it to spread the truth about those who supposedly have the best interests of the American people at heart.
