Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Good Tab, Well-Presented, Too Basic for Some
Review: PROS: Choice of tabbed material is fine (Maple Leaf Rag, Entertainer etc...) and the quality of the transcriptions is just right for someone starting in this genre: full but not overly complex. Overall the book is well presented.

CONS: Ragtime is a style that one typically gravitates to after learning the basics. The speed and complexity of the tunes necessitate this. So it's difficult to understand why in a relatively slim (64-page) volume, 1/3 is dedicated to concepts that any person who has played the guitar for a year should have mastered (i.e review of basic chords C, D, E, A etc...)

As a general rule I do not buy instructional books that do not come with a CD. This one does not, but it was the only book available in this field. The publisher can be forgiven for this as the book was published in 1976/ and rp'ed 1986 -- before many/any folks even had CD players.

I would reccommend this book, but with the caveats above.
